52 Episode 52: The Black Wizard is a clerk apprentice.txt

Starting the next day, teaching Noir to work was added to my workload.

It would be temporarily busier than ever before, but it's a natural process that would be necessary if I were to hire someone to do it.

The first adventurers I hired, Nagi and Melissa, were able to get the job done right away, but that was only because they had experience working in a tool shop.

It's normal to not do well.
It's a common sense that is no different whether you are a weapon shop or an adventurer.

Then let's start with the display.
"Wow, okay. ......

--The actuality is that it's a good idea to have Noir do the work of putting out the items early in the morning, right after the store's opening, aiming for the time when there are few visitors.

The breakdown of the merchandise is a machete for one wooden box.
Not only are they used by adventurers to explore the "Sundial Forest", but they are also in demand as an everyday use for the residents of Green Hollow Town.

After all, this is a town in the mountains.
If you go outside even a little bit, the plants and trees are endlessly lush.

...... hmmm ......!

Noir tried to lift the crate on the counter, but it only moved with a slight drag.

'............'
............

I tried to put another effort into it, but it still wouldn't lift at all.

Was it ...... heavy?
'It's ...... okay ......! See, if you do this: ......!

Noir opened the lid of the crate on the spot and began to scuttle back and forth between the counter and the display cabinet, holding a few machetes in their sheaths at a time.

As I watched him moving around busily from a distance, I thought to myself that he could move like that ......, something I couldn't let him hear.

--It's a little after noon and the number of customers has increased, so now I'm going to let them help me with the bill.

So far I've only been able to use half of the accounting counter, but today I decided to let the whole place go on a trial basis.

I'm going to change the number of employees in charge of accounting from just one to two at the same time.

All I have to do is charge the posted price and hand over the change and the goods, but it's a process that can be quite rushed when the line starts to form.

'When you get a discount or a troublesome customer, call me or Garnett. If someone wants to buy a Mithril product, it's my turn, too. It's a lot of hassle with the purchase process.
"Wow, okay, .......

It's obvious from the start that Noir has a weakness for pushovers, so I'll instruct him to call them out as soon as he feels he's out of his depth.

However, he has rarely run into troublesome guests before.

Some of the high-ranking adventurers exploring the 'Demon King's Castle Realm' are the ones who gathered as a result of me calling out to them.

This is a well known fact among other adventurers, who have received orders for weapons from Travis of Black Sword Mountain and the Golden Fang Knights.

Very few adventurers would really cause trouble in such a place.

''Welcome ......, hello .......''

 Noir continued to work unhurriedly.

He seemed to be able to do it properly without seeming to be in a hurry, but his affability was surprisingly absent.

He didn't even seem to make eye contact with the visitor, let alone smile.

However, this shop doesn't sell amiability, and Garnett isn't amiable in the opposite way to Noir, but if you can fix it, you'd better do it.

'Hey, Noir. I think it's pretty good, but can't you try to laugh a little more like this ......?

I throw out a request to Noir as the customer breaks off.

'Wow, laugh ...... thus, or ......?'

...... Noir's face twitched in a sorry way.

'Sorry about something ...... I'm sorry. I was outrageous.
When you apologize, its ...... the opposite of .......

Well, that's what happens when Noir tries to force a laugh. I've never heard of it before.

-- Eventually, it's evening and the clientele settles in reasonably well.

I left the store to Garnett and the short-term employment adventurer, and I took Noir to the one room I was using as an office.

All of the jobs that are left to the short-term adventurer can be completed in the store alone.

There is no time to teach them complicated tasks, but more importantly, there is no way we can entrust them with management-related tasks.

For example, there is a lot of paperwork related to ordering and payment.

These are areas of work that cannot be entrusted to a short term adventurer in any industry.

It's a task that I'm always the only one who does it, so I wanted to make sure that if I hired a full-time employee, he or she would share in the work.

'Wha...... am I allowed to do this, ......?'
It's getting harder and harder for me to do everything by myself. Of course, I'll do the final checks, but if I can trust someone else with the final details, I'd like to do it.
You have ...... Garnett, too. I'm that .......
'I don't want to assign more work to that guy because I always leave other tasks to him. Just do it anyway.

Perhaps it was the name of working to atone for his sins, but Noir had some difficulty in taking on the important work, but he pushed through it for now.

Noir picked up a pen with a troubled look on his face, spread the sample documents and blank paper on the table - and ran the pen across the paper at a furious pace.

In less than half the time than if I had written it, the order form to the Adventurer's Guild was written up in less than half the time.

'...... done, I think ......'
"Wow, ...... it's perfect. I'm surprised. How is it so fast?

 It's not just fast.
The text is clean and legible, no ink blotches, and I didn't find any misspellings.

This improves the efficiency of my work many times over.
 It's a big win-win that I hadn't anticipated.

'That's the kind of skill ...... is, so .......'

Noir began to explain gabbily about the quick brushstrokes he had just used, with a clumsy sly grin.

'Magic is a discipline ...... wizards can't do it just by gaining skills. Reading grimoires, ...... making manuscripts of valuable books, ...... making a book of one's own research, ...... [Quick Reading] and [Quick Writing] are useful anyway. It's ......
'I see: ...... I'm not familiar with the wizard industry, but I certainly have an image of being surrounded by tons of books and documents.'

I've never been a part of that stuff, but I've often seen grimoires being overpriced at the store front.

'But all grimoires were handwritten ...... I heard that in the city they started selling printing machines, but they didn't use those?
'Oh, no, not that one: ......!

Noir raised his voice in a rare voice volume and made his voice rise.

''A grimoire is meaningless unless the author writes it while putting his own magic power into it: ......! It's easy for a third party to tamper with the physical ink on top of it, and you can't just have textual information, but also binary and triadic information descriptions through magic: ...... Ahhhh, the despair I felt when I saw the letterpress version of Rose Crossroads's History of the Magicians and Sages It's coming back to life: ......! Each item is a different wavelength of magic-imparted artistic writing that has been sneakily chipped away at ...... That was blasphemy, that was cruelty, that was genocide against magic. ......
All right, all right, all right. Just relax. I mean it, all right?

He somehow manages to calm down Noir, who is shaking his shoulders with a desperate expression and rambles on quickly about something he doesn't understand.

This furiously fast-talking, perhaps the high-speed chanting-like skills have gone out of control.

--Anyway, there were two useful discoveries today.

One was that Noir had a high aptitude for clerical work as a byproduct of his wizard skills.

The other was that Noir had a strong obsession and a kind of switch that I hadn't noticed before, a switch I wasn't allowed to touch.
