56 Episode 56: Peace and Peace.txt

Some time later, when the light rain had lifted, Sylvia came into the shop with a basket in her hand.

I'm sorry to trouble you. I've brought you the lunch you requested.
I'm sorry you had to go to all this trouble to bring it.
It's part of my job.

Lunch delivery is the official paid service of Wakaba-Tei in Spring.

Both Garnett and I can cook, but it is indeed difficult for us to make lunch in our spare time from work, so we often use this service.

Of course, it's not always Sylvia who comes to deliver the food.

There are a number of employees working at Haru no Wakaba-tei, so one of them is supposed to bring the food to you.

Incidentally, Haruno-Wakabatei also undertakes an on-site cooking service in addition to delivery, and I am indebted to that service from time to time.

"So you don't have many customers today?
When it rains, it's usually like this. That said, isn't it about time it started to increase?

Many of the customers who come to the weapon shop are not particularly time-sensitive, and if the weather is bad, they usually delay their visit.

He knew this was going to happen, which is why he encouraged the sleep-deprived Noir to take a nap.

'In the meantime, pay for it: ......'
Excuse me, can I have this?

Just as she was about to pay Sylvia for her lunch, a customer adventurer brought her the goods.

While I was dealing with that one first, Sylvia was staring at the goods around the counter.

'...... and bad bad. The price is for three people and a small silver coin is ......
Mr. Luke. Wasn't this a product that's been around for a while?

Saying that, Sylvia pointed to the amulet (charm) and scroll (scroll) that Noir had brought with her this morning.

''Ah, that's it. Noir made them for me with the [Magic Tool Creation] skill.''
Wow, ...... what kind of tool is that?

Since Sylvia was curious, I'll try to explain the effects and uses of each one.

--First of all, half of the amulets belong to the classification of amulets.

Their effects are so-called amulets and wards off evil and bad luck.
It is an amulet that focuses on repelling and avoiding harmful things.

--The other amulet is called a talisman.

This one is the opposite of an amulet, and is designed to have a beneficial effect on its owner.
The simplest example would still be the 'lucky charm'.

'I didn't know there was such a distinction between an amulet and a talisman ...... amulet. I didn't know that.
''They're all made with skill and magic, so they're really effective, unlike a comforting spell. However, they are consumable items that break down every time they are effective.

-- and the scroll is a substitute called a spell scroll.

A scroll is not a thick one, but rather a slightly larger piece of paper that is lightly rolled up and tied with a string.

It's not just a matter of time before you get to the point where you'll be able to get the right amount of magic to activate it.

I've heard that the fact that it has to be untied and opened to activate is a kind of safety to prevent outbursts.

Of course, this is also an expendable item, and it usually becomes useless after a single activation.

''Even if it's an expendable item, Luke-san can use it up with [Repair], right?
'No, it's hard to [repair] a consumable magic item. I guess the easiest thing to see is the case of the scrolls.

When the scroll is activated, the paper and parchment of the material disintegrates under the load of the magical power, leaving behind a small amount of wreckage and disappearing.

It is literally built to be a one-time disposable item.

''In the case of the Amulet and Talisman, it's similar to [repairing] a torch (torch) that has been used up. Just like a torch consumes oil and burns fire, the material used to keep the magic power in place wears out rapidly, so simply repairing it is useless.

Even if you put [Restoration] on a burned out torch, the oil you consumed will not be restored.

The [Repair] skill is not a skill that creates something out of nothing, it cannot create something that was lost.

The only reason why a blade spill or other missing pieces appear to be restored is because the material was diverted from other parts to fill in the holes, and the total amount of material does not change at all.

In order to apply a perfect [restoration], it is essential to replenish the material.

If you want to use the 【Restoration】 skill to restore a burned out torch to its original state, you have to go to the trouble of replenishing the oil as well.

''I can [repair] the used torches as long as I have oil to replenish them, but if I'm going to go that far, it's quicker to bring some spare oil. The same goes for magic items.

I don't care if it's a piece of equipment that can't be ignored in terms of size and weight, like swords and armor, but both the Amulet and Talisman are merely the size of an accessory.

If you go out of your way to carry the material for 【Restoration】 separately, it wouldn't make much difference if you wore two of the same thing.

'If you can't get a new one, then using it around for 【Restoration】 is probably an option, but right now, we have Noir.
I see - ...... By the way, who's this noir guy?
I've got a lot on my plate and I'm resting in the back, but I should wake you up now.

Lunch has just arrived, so it's a good time to wake up.

Leaving counter duties to the short term adventurer, I head back to the back of the shop and head towards the bedrooms.

First, I take a look at the third bedroom that had been vacated for visitors.

'...... You're not there.'

There are three bedrooms available in this residence/work space.

Two of them are the bedrooms that me and Garnett usually use, so I thought I'd suggested that he rest in this spare bedroom.

Either he was already up and moved somewhere else, or he was so sleepy that he went into a different bedroom.

'(I don't feel comfortable peeking into Garnett's bedroom, so let's start with this one.)

I opened my bedroom door and saw the quilt on my bed raised to the size of a human being.

Apparently, it was next to the room I recommended and I had entered it by mistake.

'...... What can I do about it, this is ......'

If it was a man, I would shake him with all my might or roll him off, but that's just a poor choice.

For now, I'll call out to them and if that doesn't wake them up, I'll think about it then.

"Hey, Noir. It's almost noon.
Mmm ...... bran ...... lay it down some more ......
"Noir?
...... ha!

Noir bounces up and rolls off the bed in a grand hurry when he realizes I'm in the doorway.

She is confusedly trying to tidy up her long black hair with a hand comb, but it's clearly not working.

'Sorry, I'm sorry ...... I slept well, I'm fine now ......'
That's great, but that's my room. It's next door to the vacant one.
........................

Noir stops his hand with a snap and blushes to his ears at once.

It's too late to realize it after I said it, but it might have been better not to point this out.

''Anyway, lunch has also arrived, so I'm a little early for dinner--''

Just then, Garnett's voice came from the shop.

'The white wolf! A visitor from the Golden Fang has an urgent matter to attend to!
