186 Episode 186: Mithril Workshop Part 1.txt

On the third morning of my stay in King's Landing, I was greeted with a breakfast prepared by Abigail.

I was sending off my second morning here with the same breakfast that Abigail had cooked for me the first time.

Today Garnett was dressed in his familiar boyish attire and looked like a different person than he was yesterday.

'Nevertheless, you surprised me last night,'

As she served the after-dinner tea, Abigail opened her mouth in dismay.

'Not only did you not purchase your clothing, but you returned home before sunset. Master Garnett is a self-made man in his own right. In fact, it's only after the night is over that you will be able to get your hands on ......
Shut up. It's just yesterday, so we can't change our relationship that easily.

As Garnett said, it was during the evening party held two days ago that we stepped out of the relationship between the guards and their targets, or the owner and the shopkeeper.

It was literally just 'and then one night later', and it's not natural for his attitude to change just because of this.

I'm going to be able to have the same clothes and ...... work clothes as usual.
No, not today.

He stopped Abigail as she was about to leave the dining room.

'I'm going to the Mithril Processor's Union and the Sun Dial Chamber of Commerce's headquarters, so I'm thinking of asking you to escort me between them.
'I see, you are on business today, Mr. Luke. I'm sorry to have to ask you to do this.
The union is more of a tour than a job, though.

His Majesty the King's return to King's Landing is scheduled for the night after tomorrow, and these are the two remaining appointments that I want to complete before then.

If I finish both of them today, I will have the entire day tomorrow and the night after tomorrow as free time.

It would be better to get things done while there is still time to spare, both in terms of preparing time to deal with any problems that may arise and in terms of spending more time without Garnett and work.

After finishing our morning preparations, we headed to the headquarters of the Mithril Processors Association, located in a section of the royal capital.

The exterior of the building is built to blend in with the surrounding landscape and has an appearance that I would not have known it was so if it weren't for the signage.

As usual - like the building of the Blacksmith's Union in Tri-Brook City that I once visited, it is only a building for the union's paperwork, and the individual members' work areas are probably separate.

'It's pretty heavily guarded, isn't it?
That's right. All the mithril that comes into King's Landing is collected here once and then distributed on top of that.
"Heh. ......

I was about to say you know a lot about this, but I swallowed the words.

Garnett's mother was killed by a mithril trafficking organization and he became a knight to avenge her death.

Then it's only natural for him to know a lot about the regular distribution system for mithril.
I don't want to step in poorly and remind you of the painful things.

Immediately after the security knight proved my identity and allowed me into the building, the older man's angry voice came from the reception counter.

''Hey guys, what's going on here! Your rations are down!

It's not us, but the receptionist was the target of our anger.

It's a good thing that you're able to have a good time with your friends.

You can't wait to get your hands on it. It's not a good idea to have a good time.
'Don't go to ...... anymore, Dad. You have priorities, as per protocol.
I'm just saying it's a weird thing to do. I'm the one who's going to go to .......

The stocky man who was called Dad noticed us, and after a look of suspicion and trying to remember something from his face, he eventually clapped his hands hard in surprise.

'Wait a minute, there, brother! Are you Luke from Green Hollow by any chance?
...... Have we met somewhere?

I hate to say it, but this is someone I don't recognize in the slightest.
Garnett is also quizzical and is gently clutching the sword at his waist.

He didn't even have the impression that he felt like he had seen her somewhere before, and they didn't know each other at a level that would assure him that they had never met before.

'Father! I've told you a million times that it's rude to talk to me out of the blue!

The girl who looked like a daughter scolded her father and then bowed politely towards us.

I'm sorry, father. I've only heard about you through word of mouth. And yet I have become so familiar with you ......
'Could it be that you're ......, or are you still a mithril processor?'
Yes. My family has a workshop near here.

Then the father and son of the processor briefly introduced themselves.

The father, Craig, is the head of the workshop and the nominee who is authorized by the Royal Court to handle mithril.

The daughter, Cassie, is an apprentice processor and is not licensed, but is involved with mithril in the guise of an employee hired by her father.

In our White Wolf store, I'm the only one licensed to handle it, but the employees who filed the report, Noir and Alexia, also use mithril in their products.

''What business are you in King's Landing for, White Wolf-san?''
'There are many other matters. But since we're here in King's Landing, I thought I'd take a look at the other craftsmen's work before I leave.
'Oh, really? If so, go to .......
Why don't you come in my shop? We just got some good tea cakes in, too.

 Craig interrupted Cassie's words.

He looked annoyed for a moment at the forced intrusion, but Cassie quickly regained her composure and resumed the conversation.

'Our workshop specializes in ornaments, so it may not be a reference to Mr. White Wolf's work in the weapons shop, but I think you can see how ...... mithril is generally used.
'Thank you. May I take you up on your offer then?
Yes, you're welcome!

Now that we've gotten our story straight, we decide to follow Craig and Cassie's lead to their store.

It was an ornamental shop with a glamorous atmosphere, located about two blocks away from the union headquarters building.

The interior of the shop is really stylish, with a large number of employees, and the customers seem to be mainly from the wealthy class.

As an ornament shop located near the center of the capital, it is just as I imagined.

''Are you surprised that it's so different from your father's image?''
'What? No, well, that's not what I'm talking about: ......

He looked around the store, laughing and fooling around.

Then a mithril alloy sword in a familiar make up came into view.

''...... maybe .......''

There's no doubt about it. That was a mithril sword I had [synthesized] created, sold by the White Wolf Store.
