502 Episode 502: White Wolf Knights, Preparing Part 2.txt

 --Medallion.
The core that makes up the bodies of beings called demonic and divine beasts, which are different from the normal monsters that inhabit dungeons.

No doubt no one in this world must have thought that this was the true identity of the mysterious artifact presented as a condition of His Majesty's succession to the throne.

The first time we learned of the existence of the medallion was when we visited the neutral city of the demon tribe living on the second level, Athropolis.

In order for us to use Asropolis as a base for our dungeon exploration, Fraxinus, the administrator of the city, proposed a condition - to bring morning to the second level, where the ceiling's luminous function was lost.

In short, it was supposed to be just a job to [repair] the ceiling's luminescent function, but the cause of the malfunction was a giant wolf demonic beast, Skoll, who was sucking up the magic power and planning to regenerate it.

After an unintentional joint fight with one of the four Demon King's Army generals, the Ice Norzuri, the medallion was the first medallion, a medal-shaped artifact obtained after defeating Skol, which was the first medallion.

Before that excitement could cool down, the next threat was upon us.

Agart Ram attempted to assassinate the administrator, Fraxinus, and launched a simultaneous attack on Athropolis, while at the same time, the second demonic beast, the Fiery Giant (Muspel), was introduced.

Fortunately, we were able to minimize the damage and prevent the assassination of the administrator, defeat Muspel, and obtain a new medallion.

The Skoll medallion remains in our possession, while the Muspel medallion is sent to King's Landing for research, so the medallion His Majesty gave us is the third one in the order of its acquisition, but the second one as a usable tool.

(Skoll's was the first medallion found in its complete state, but His Majesty had acquired an incomplete medallion that was split in two as of more than twenty years earlier: ...... Really, you're a different level of adventurer than I am.)

What came to mind was not a feeling of self-deprecation.

Rather, I felt a kind of inexplicable joy at being entrusted with a unique treasure by such a person.

I'm not going to be able to say that I'm not going to be able to do anything about it, but I'm going to be able to say that I'm not going to be able to do anything about it.

I'm sure you'll be able to find the best way to get the best out of it.

'That's right. The medallion given to me by His Majesty is a medallion ...... I'm going to put this one into actual battle too, but who do you think I should use it for?

Essentially, medallions are artifacts that absorb a sufficient amount of magical power to form the body of a demonic beast and become its core (core).

When Garnett wanted to increase his own strength before, I used this property of the medallion to create a means to have Garnett [fuse] the power of a demonic beast into Garnett.

It's not that the Demonic Beast Skol medallion was special, so it should be possible to do the same thing with the Ice Wolf medallion, and His Majesty entrusted this to me on that basis.

''Ah ...... I may have said this before, but I'll pass.''

It was Chandler who was the first to reply.

'My family has been a family of warriors for generations. We also do all sorts of preparations to raise the level of our combat abilities. From what I've heard, it doesn't seem like the medallion's [fusion] and those guys don't go well together.

I do remember hearing him say that some time ago.

Then I guess I'd better avoid targeting Chandler as much as possible.

Using it on me might not be ...... tactically very tasty.

Lionel was the next one to answer after Chandler.

''Since my previous affiliation is the Golden Fang in charge of military affairs, I am mainly responsible for commanding external collaborators here as well, but because of that, I have less opportunity to fight on the front lines than the others.
'Well, ...... that's right. I don't have any experience in commanding a unit in combat, as expected, so I'm always relying on you for that.

Of course, Lionel also fights us on the front lines, but it's not a frequent occurrence.

It's a method that can't be used unless I, the material medallion, myself, and the target are all in the same place, so it might not be useful for Lionel, who is often asked to command a separate task force.

However, if you think about it that way, the most useful and most compatible opponent would still be Garnett, who is always acting together as a guard.

''It doesn't really need to be thought about here and now, does it?

It's a good idea to be able to have a good idea of what you're looking for.

You can't use it only for that particular person once you've used it on someone else. You can use it for any purpose you see fit. You can use it for adventurers if you want. It's a good thing that you're able to get a good idea of what you're looking for.
'Surely, ...... if you ask me. I should just pick the best person for each occasion?
'Right? If you want, you could use it on a wizard like Noir or Melissa and it would turn out differently than it did for me.

When Skol's medallion was [fused] to Garnet, the main external changes were only the ears and tail of a demonic beast growing, and the rest were changes that didn't show up on the outside, such as small changes in claws and fangs becoming sharper, and a dramatic increase in physical ability.

However, no matter who you tried it on, you wouldn't necessarily get the same results.

The possibility that it could possibly turn into a more hexenbiest-like, literal beastly figure could not be denied.

Maybe the reason Garnett's change in appearance was contained to that extent in the first place - for reasons I couldn't tell the rest of them - was because I unconsciously tried to avoid any changes that would undermine his appearance. ...

So that's what we'll do with the medallion for now. After all this time, that's a big responsibility.
You're a Knight Commander, of course. You'll be fine.

Garnett is smiling and drumming away.

It's strange, but the words Garnett utters in a casual manner are more reassuring than the 'okay' said by anyone else.

I've decided on how to handle the medallion when it's time to put it into action, so I was about to write that and other things down on the paperwork when there was a knock on the conference room door and the last member of the group showed up.

The last member of the group appeared at the door of the conference room.

Ulysses of the Indigo Shark Order.
He's older than me, a lean man with a vaguely tired look about him.

You must be the liaison from the Adventurer's Guild. It seems that there has been some progress in the Ark of the Elements.
