　何を言っているのかというのはその声を聞いた者達には正確に理解出来なかったが、それでも感謝の言葉を言っているのだろうというのは理解出来た.

「いえ、こちらこそ助かったわ. けど……本当に荷物はそれだけでいいの？　もっとモンスターの素材を持っていってもいいのよ？」

　一行を代表してマリーナがそう告げるが、アースは首を横に振る.

「いや、オークとコボルトの魔石だけじゃなくて、オーガの魔石や素材まで貰ったんだ. これだけでも貰いすぎだろうし、何よりこれ以上貰っても俺だけだと持ち運べなくなる」

　そう告げるアースの腰の袋は魔石で限界近くまで膨らんでおり、背中の矢筒の下には布で包まれたオーガの素材もある.
　その言葉通り、これ以上素材を貰ったとしても森から出る時に動きが鈍くなるのは確実だった.
　ポロという相棒がいるとはいえ、それでも動きが鈍くなるというのはアースにとって致命的と言ってもいい.
　元々が弓を武器としており、身の軽さを重視しての戦いを得意としているのだから.

「それに……これも貰ったし」

　懐から取り出したのは、紫の水晶. 綺麗にカットされたその指先程の大きさの水晶は、宝石としての価値もさることながらこの集落への通行証でもある.
　レイやアースが普通に生活していたので本人達にはあまり自覚がなかったが、このダークエルフの集落というのは基本的に限られた人間しかやってくることは出来ない.
　その限られた人物だという証明が、アースが貰った紫水晶で出来たものだった.
　これを持っている者はこの集落への出入りが出来る為、商人達にしてみれば喉から手が出る程に欲している物だ.
　それこそこれを売るだけで一財産にはなる.

「そう？　レイと同じく世界樹の素材を幾つか渡してもいいってお爺様から許可は貰ってるんだけど」

　その言葉に、レイの側に浮かんでいた光球が明滅する.
　構わない、と. そう言っているようにも見えたが、それでもアースは首を横に振る.

「いや、俺はそこまで活躍した訳じゃなかったから. 今回の件で活躍したのは間違いなくレイだし、それで俺が厚かましく世界樹の素材を貰う訳には……」

　アースの脳裏には、少しだけ悔しさが存在した.
　自分の力だけで巨大蝉と戦った場合、とてもではないが勝てるとは思えなかったからだ.
　もしかしたらテイム出来たかも？　と一瞬考えるアースだったが、今までの経験からそれも難しいだろうと判断する.
　これまでにも何種類ものモンスターと絆を育ててきたアースだったが、自分よりも強いモンスターというのは中々心を許してはくれない.
　それにも色々と例外があるのだが、アースから見て巨大蝉をテイム出来るとは思わなかった.

（そもそも、テイマーとしてグリフォンをテイム出来るって点でレイは俺よりも格上だ. しかもレイの魔力をあの巨大蝉が吸収してたって話だし、その点を考えればレイの方が圧倒的に巨大蝉をテイム出来る条件は揃ってたのに、結局出来なかったしな）

　正確にはレイは魔獣術の使い手であり、テイマーではない.
　だがアースがそれを知る筈もなく、グリフォンをテイムしているレイは自分よりも圧倒的に格上のテイマーだという認識がある.

「そう？　じゃあ、森から出る時には気をつけてね. 昨日の件でモンスターはかなり減ってると思うし、巨大蝉が倒されたからそこまで残っているモンスターも凶暴じゃないと思うけど……それでも、モンスターはモンスターよ」

　念を押すようなマリーナの言葉に頷き、アースは最後に左肩のポロと一礼して送ってくれるというダークエルフと共にその場を去って行く.
　最初は自分だけでいいと言ったアースだったが、そもそもダークエルフと一緒でなければ障壁の結界を出られないと言われれば、頷くしかない.
　また、迷いの結界も世界樹が回復した以上、少し前までのように易々と突破するのは難しくなっている.
　人によっては問題なく突破出来る者もいるかもしれないが、やはり確実性を求めるのであればダークエルフと一緒に行動するのが最善だった.

「じゃあ、また. レイもまたどこかで会えるといいな. セトも元気で」

「ポロロロロ」

　最後に短い挨拶を交わし、アースはポロとダークエルフと共に去って行く.
　それを見送っていたレイ達だったが、二人と一匹の姿が障壁の結界を潜ると、やがてマリーナが口を開く.

「さて……アースと同様に私達もそろそろ帰る準備をしなきゃね. 私としては明日か明後日には帰ろうと思ってるんだけど、どうかしら？」
「私は問題ない. ……休暇もそろそろ終わりか」
「エレーナ様、また後で来ればいいのでは？　貴族派と中立派はそれぞれ緩やかにですが協力関係を結んでいます. そうなれば、当然これ以後も交流を持つことになるかと」

　明確な協力関係ではなく、緩やかな協力関係.
　それはいざという時にはお互いをあっさりと切り捨てる程度の協力関係ではあるが、敵対関係よりは明らかに上の関係だった.

「じゃあ、レイは一緒に来てちょうだい. 約束の世界樹の素材を渡すから」

　そう告げ、誘ってくるマリーナにレイは頷いて足を一歩踏み出すが……

「エレーナとヴィヘラはどうしたの？　私はレイに来て欲しいって言ったんだけど」

　レイはそんな二人の初恋でもあった.
