取りあえずマリーナに今回の一件を説明して調べて貰うということをダスカーと話し合った後で、レイは領主の館を出た.
　本来ならもっと話しておくべきことは色々とあったのだが、レイはともかくとして、ダスカーは仕事が山積みになっていて時間が取れないというのがその理由だ.
　レイとしては、グリムの件を取りあえず棚上げにすることが出来たので、助かった一面もあったが.
　そんな訳で、レイはセトと共にギルムの街中を歩いていた.
　目指しているのは、診療所.
　マリーナが精霊魔法を使って治療を行っている場所だ.
　レイにしてみれば、今の状況でマリーナをトレントの森に連れて行ってもいいのか？　という思いがない訳でもない.
　だが、あのウィスプを調べるのと、怪我をした者の治療のどちらが大事かと言われれば、当然のように前者だった.
　診療所には、マリーナ以外に治療出来る者がいるというのも大きい.
　もっとも、他の者達はマリーナのように劇的な回復を望めはしないのだが.
　ともあれ、代わりの者がいる診療所とは裏腹に、ウィスプを調べられる信頼出来る相手となると、現在のところマリーナしかいない.

（それに、ここ何日かは生誕の塔に泊まり込んでるから、マリーナ達の顔を見てないしな）

　だからこそ、数日ぶりに顔を見たいというのも、レイの正直な気持ちだった.
　診療所に向かう途中でも屋台で買い食いをし、美味いと思えば大量に買ってはミスティリングに収納していく.
　それは、いつもより頻繁ではあった.
　生誕の塔にいる冒険者やリザードマン達に出来るだけ不満を抱かせないようにしているというのもある.
　……ダスカーに会いに行った時に、そういうアドバイスと共に必要経費として金貨数枚を貰ったというのも大きい.
　このような買い食いに金貨数枚というのは多すぎるのだが、ダスカーとしてはレイに色々と仕事を押しつけているという自覚がある――押しつけられているという自覚もある――ので、それをねぎらう意味もある.
　レイが食べるという行為が好きだと知っているので、レイの好きな料理を買ってストレス発散でもして欲しいという思いもあったのだろう.
　そんな感じで食料を買いつつ進んでいると、やがて目的の場所が見えてくる.
　まだ午前中だからか、診療所が混んでいる様子はない.
　以前レイが診療所に来た時は、建物の外にまで怪我人が並んでいたのだが、今は建物の外に並んでいる者はいなかった.

「じゃあ、セト. ここで少し待っててくれよ」

　野菜と焼いた鶏肉が挟まれたサンドイッチをセトに与えると、レイは診療所の扉を叩く.

「はい、怪我人……あら？」

　診療所から出て来た人物が、早速怪我人でも来たのかと思ってレイに声を掛けるが、途中で止まる.
　以前レイが来た時にも診療所で見た顔だったので、レイが何をしにここに来たのかを理解しているのだろう.

「マリーナ様に用事？」
「そうだ. ちょっとマリーナを借りたいんだけど、構わないか？　忙しいのなら、少し待ってもいいけど」
「いえ、大丈夫よ. 今はまだ怪我人も殆ど来てないし. ……今はまだ、だけどね」

　怪我人というのは、いつくると分かっている訳ではない.
　それこそ、何らかのミスによって生まれる存在だ.
　だからこそ、今はと強調して言ったのだろうが……レイにとっては、今のところ怪我人が少ないのなら問題はなかった.

「そうか. じゃあ、マリーナを借りていくぞ. マリーナ！」

　レイの声に、薬師と思しき老人と何かの話をしていたマリーナは振り向く.
　そこでレイの存在に気が付き、笑みを浮かべながら近づいてくる.
　診療所で働いているというのに、今日のマリーナは白のパーティドレスを身に纏っていた.
　胸元はかなり隠されているが、その代わりなのか背中はかなりの面積が外に出ている、そんなドレス.
　怪我人ではなくても、マリーナの艶姿を見る為に人が多くやって来るのではないか？　と思われる姿だ.

「あら、レイ. 久しぶりね」
「いや、久しぶりって数日だろ？」
「私にとっては、数日でも十分に久しぶりよ. エレーナやヴィヘラも寂しがってたわよ？」
「悪いな. ただ、その件にもちょっと進展があるかしれない. それで少し協力して欲しくてやってきたんだが……少しいいか？」
「ええ、レイからのお誘いだもの. 忙しくない今なら、喜んで. ……でも、何かあったらすぐに戻ってきたいから、この近くのお店にしてくれる？　話を聞くんでしょ？　なら、近くに軽食を出すお店があるから、そこに行きましょうか. 私は果実亭にいるから、何か手に負えないことがあったら知らせてちょうだい」

　最後を、診療所の中にいる他の者達に告げると、マリーナはレイと腕を組んで診療所を出る.
　マリーナの嬉しそうな様子や、女の艶を感じさせる美貌、派手なパーティドレスから、レイとマリーナの姿を見た者は、どこかにデートにでも行くのではないかと、そう思ってしまう.
　それこそマリーナの服装から、軽いデートではなく濃密な時間をすごす、お泊まりのデートといった風に.
　……実際には、近くの店でレイから自分を訪ねてきた話を聞くだけなのだが.
　腕を組んだことにより、マリーナの褐色の双丘がレイの腕でひしゃげる.
　パーティドレスで胸元まで隠されてはいるが、この季節だからだろう. 決してドレスの生地は厚くはない.
　勿論ヴィヘラが着ているような向こう側が透けて見えるような薄衣ではないが、それでもパーティドレス越しに圧倒的な迫力を持つ柔らかさを感じるには十分な薄さではあった.
　サンドイッチを食べ終わったセトが、そんな二人の後を追う.
　レイとのデートということで嬉しそうなマリーナが案内したのは、診療所から少し……歩いて十分も経たない場所にある、小さな店.
　果実亭という名前や、マリーナが言った通り軽い食事を出すという表現から、レイが見たその店のイメージは、喫茶店だった.
　もっとも、レイが日本で見たことのある喫茶店というのは、TVやアニメ、漫画といったものに出て来るようなものだけだったが.
　田舎だからか、それとも単純にレイが知らなかっただけなのかは分からないが、レイの生活圏内に喫茶店の類は存在していなかった.

「ここか？」
「ええ、そうよ. さ、入りましょ. あ、悪いけどセトは入れないから、外で待っててね. 小さいお店だから……」
「グルゥ！」

　マリーナの言葉に、セトは分かった！　と喉を鳴らす.
　レイと離れるのは寂しいが、それでも近くにいられるのであれば問題はないだろうと、そう思ってのことだ.
　そんなセトに、レイはサンドイッチの代わりに串焼きと果実を幾つか置く.
　早速串焼きを食べているセトをその場に残して、果実亭の中に入る.
　するとそこは、外からも見て分かった通り決して広い店ではなかった.
　だが、花の類が飾られていたり、日の光が入るようにと調整されていることもあってか、見るからに明るくすごしやすい空間となっている.
　客の大半が若い女の理由が明らかだった.

「こんな店があったんだな」
「男の人にはあまり人気がないけどね. あ、でも時々デートで来てる人とかがいるわよ？」

　ふふっ、と.
　意味ありげな笑みを浮かべたマリーナに手を引っ張られ、空いている席に座る.

「何を頼む？　果実水だけでも結構な種類があるけど」
「そう言われてもな. この店に来るのは初めてだから、ちょっと分からない. マリーナのお勧めと、何か軽く食べられるのを頼む」

　レイの言葉に頷いたマリーナは、店員を呼んで素早く注文する.
　注文が終わって店員がいなくなると、改めてマリーナは向かいに座っているレイに視線を向け、尋ねる. "And? What did Ray come to do when he was supposed to be busy with the Tower of Birth? Of course, if he came to see me, I'd welcome him. ... That's not the case, is it?"
"Well, how on earth are you looking at me?"
"Oh, do you want to hear it?"

　Ray shakes his head to Marina, who asks with a mischievous smile.
　If I had to say something here, it would definitely be against me.
　Meanwhile, a clerk brings fruit water and bread.
　I don't know if I'm lucky or warming up after ordering, but the bread had a savory enough smell to stimulate my appetite.
　When the clerk walks away after bowing, Marina recommends that you drink it and puts your mouth on the fruit water.
　It would be better to have straws at times like this, but unfortunately, straws don't exist in this world.
　No, maybe it's somewhere, but I've never seen Ray.

"It's delicious."

　There is so much more juice than fruit water that it's much more juice.
　At first, a refreshing sweetness spreads through the mouth, and by the time the fruit water passes through the throat, a slight sourness remains in the mouth and you can enjoy the aftertaste.
　Also, I'm glad that it's getting cold with magic items in this season. ... Ray wears dragon robes with simple air conditioning, so that doesn't really matter.

"Hmmm, I'm glad you liked it. I'd recommend that bread, too.

　When I took a bite of the bread, I found it fresh from the oven, with the aroma and softness of it, and nuts that resembled walnuts.
　This bread tasted as good as fruit water.
　That's enough to make me want to buy a lot of bread and fruit water and put it in a mistling.

"Well, shall we get down to business?"
"Oh, that would help me... ...to keep my voice from being heard by spirit magic."
"... I see,"

　The words that Ray uttered must have proved to be important.
　Marina asks the spirit of the wind to keep her voice quiet.

"And? What the hell happened?"
"To put it simply, we now know the cause of the transition to another world in the forest of Trent."
"How?"
"I was talking to Grimm and he seemed to be interested. So I looked it up and found out right away last night. Honestly, I don't think I need anything more with Grimm."

　We found out in a matter of minutes why we couldn't find it ourselves.
　It would be impossible to look at it and tell them not to think.
　Judging from Ray's appearance, Marina looks a little dumbfounded, wondering if she understands the situation.
　Marina, however, seems to have been interested in the transition from another world, so she stops looking at her and urges her to move on.
　Encouraged by his gaze, Ray explains what he's reported to Dasker when he's done explaining why he should have Marina study him as a reliable partner.

"I'm not a researcher, am I?"
"I know that, but Mr. Dusker said that Marina can imitate researchers to some extent as she lives longer."

　Marina's movements stop, perhaps because of Ray's words.
　Then there's a silence for several tens of seconds... and then he breathes out.

"I can't help it. As for Dusker, I'm going to spread an embarrassing secret later on."
"No, don't do that. Mr. Dusker is quite tired from all the hard work he has he?

　Ray told me so, but some of the hard work involved Ray.

　It was Ray who decided he was going to tease Dusker directly for what he called black history, but he thought it would be better than rumored, so he said nothing more.

"Oh, of course, it's not that serious of a past, is it? It's just a small mistake."
"Ah... yes. That's all right for now, but what I want to say is another topic. Can I ask you to study Whisp?"
"Well, I'm sure it's interesting, and I don't mind. Just...I'm a little more worried about the clinic."
"Mr. Dusker is going to put his hand around you, though I don't know exactly how he'll put his hand around you."

　Some knights can use the magic of recovery.
　Ray predicts that such a person will probably be sent around, but that's only a prediction.
　It would be up to Dusker to decide what will actually happen.

"Well, then... let's talk to the doctor first and go to the forest of Trent."

　At Marina's words Ray nodded that he was saved.
