24 CHAPTER XXIV -- Hunting Conference

You're here.

The head of the Adventurer's Guild, Trow, who was already waiting for them in the reception room, greets Lasse and the others.

The day after receiving the request from Ino, Lasse and Letty arrived at the Adventurers' Guild.
You are led to the reception room at the back of the building where you meet with Trow, the guild leader, who is familiar with you from your material purchases.

Thank you for choosing our store.

When Lasse greets Trow with his managerial face, Trow waves to him and asks him to stop.

"No need to be so formal. We don't have time for such niceties in this business.

Okay. Then let's talk business.

"That's good, but will the little knight's daughter join in?

Trow turns to Letty, who was behind Lasse, "Yes, I'm also a knight defending the country.

Yes, I'm a knight in arms, so I don't have a subordinate in the role, but I do have some real-world experience, and I have experience running a squad as an officer.

"Letty has fought in the front line with me, so she's much more experienced in the field than a bad Knight of the Order.

"Well, that's a pleasant miscalculation. This fight is going to be a mixed bag, and we wanted someone with command experience at our throats.

That's good to hear. ...... but you both knew each other.

Lasse was a bit surprised to learn that Letty, the knight, and Trow, the master of the Adventurer's Guild, knew each other.

I've been formally sent to this town as a knight, so I've met all the powers of the town.

Letty puffs her chest out, "Of course.

"I see.

"Are you done? I'd like to have a quick meeting in the future.

Then Trow asked them to sit down on the sofa and spread a large piece of paper on the table.

"Is this ...... a map?

Lasse was right, it was a map of the area around this Dexi town.

Where did you get this map? Who did you buy it from?

When Letty suddenly sees the map, she asks Trow with a serious look on her face.

Yeah, maps are usually a military secret. From the perspective of an active Letty, it would be a bad idea to ask her about it.

There is little demand for maps in this world.
Ordinary people rarely leave their town, and when they do, it's only in the next town over.
In the time it takes to make a map, a traveler can gather information and figure out the path to his destination.
There is no need for a map unless the road is off the beaten path for some special reason, since there are roads to begin with.

From that point of view, only a few people need a map.
And the greatest force that wants a map is the state.
 That's right, the military.
Then there are the special agents who serve a particular aristocracy.
The last is human, like a criminal.

For Letty, the worst thing that could happen to her as a knight is to have the map in the hands of another spy.
With the map, you can march your troops into the country with little trouble when you commit an invasion.
The usefulness of a map is immeasurable: lands ripe for battle, winning towns and mines to invade, and so on.
That's why I needed to know at all costs why Trow, the head of the Adventurer's Guild, had the map.

This is a map we made ourselves. To counter the breeding season of the demons.

"Is it a rivalry?

In response to Trow's answer, Letty asks the truth, leaving doubt in his mind.

The wall that surrounds this town was built to protect the people from demons. When the demons multiply during the breeding season and the blessings of the forest are no longer sufficient, they come out en masse. And this town is the closest one to them.

Trow points to the map and slides his finger on the map to the town of Dexhi.

"But there has never been any help from the government. The army is too busy with the war, we're on our own.

Hearing those words, Letty's face darkened.
 That was just as well.
This country has been at war with its neighbors for decades.
So, unless there was a catastrophe that threatened both countries, there was always skirmishing.
Especially in recent years, the war was in its final phase, and along the border was a fierce battleground.
Therefore, no matter how critical the situation was for the town, the country could not move its army.

So, in order to make the best use of the terrain, we made a map and consulted with it to see how the monsters were spreading that year and discuss where to set traps and where to place our forces. That's why this map belongs to this town. It's only used to protect the town.

At the seriousness of Trow's voice, even Lasse, who should have been out of the military, could not help but feel a bit mystified.

I'm sorry for that ...... indiscreet question,

Letty apologizes to Trow after being completely debunked, partly because of his military obligations.

What do you mean? There's a lot of pretense in the military, so I don't blame you.

But Trow accepted Letty's apology with a nonchalant look on his face.

It's a good thing that you're an adult, or maybe this is just a game.

"Okay, I'll tell you what I want you to do, but first I need to borrow a demon that can use recovery magic. Are there more than just unicorns?

"Only a unicorn can use recovery magic. But there is a demon that can make potions, so let's have him prepare a potion.

Thank you. I'll buy the potion in town. Now all we need is a fighting demon. I especially need a demon that can attack from a distance and a demon that can stop the enemy.

I have a few that can do it, so I'll walk you through it.

"Well, I'll find out. Lasse's demons have served in the military as a crafting unit, so it's easy to explain which demons are useful for which tasks.

At the mention of demon operations, Letty joins the conversation.
It looks like she's succeeded in changing her mind.

That's helpful.

Well, let's start with ......

Thus, the operation to defeat the demons in the forest of the Great Demon Forest, with the demons of Rise as members, was about to begin.
