81-Orphans of Nimes

Well, we're near a hill that we've heard is scenic... and we run into a strange group of people arguing in front of us.

'This is the territory we were originally selling drinks on! Don't do business with me afterwards!
'You didn't sell any flowers! We don't sell drinks!

If you look at them, they are poor beastmen and mixed children. Probably an orphan from the slums, it's like a business is batting away.

'It looks a bit moody, maybe we should change it to something else?

It's a shame I even packed a lunch for you.
Guys, you're going to lose customers if you don't do that in plain sight.

'There's a slam of mixes and beastmen here too... can Ryota do something about it?'

I think Midea has been mistaken about something lately. I'm not like a cat-shaped robot who gets ruined if you rely on me. I'll give it some thought, but....

I know what it's like to be her, don't I? Husband. This isn't just a child's fight, it's about earning money to survive tomorrow. Will you help him in any way you can?

I'm not sure I've ever volunteered for anything before, but I don't know if I can handle it.

Everybody! We're not going to fight! We should all make enough to live on, right? We'll figure it out! Ryota here knows a lot about business, and he's a terrific Alp Demon Exterminator!

 Resolved....
 The bar has been raised!
My intentions are only muddying the tea.

In a pinch, it's standard to text the goddess. If you're in relay range of an armored car, it's smackable. And thankfully, we received a partial ban on the technology.

........technology propagation. Is it actually an unexpectedly appropriate rule?

First, we need to know what's going on, then we need to gather information and make a plan. The goal is to make sure everyone has enough to eat. I don't mind free of charge this time, but it's a special price to pay for the privilege!

I'll try to put things in perspective, but there are too few customers on this hill for all of us to eat. There's not much we can do for the slum orphans. We need to improve both our income and our expenses.

But we can't let the kids do dangerous work. Well, we need to gather information first. If we don't know what's going on with the town and the kids, we won't have any ideas.

In the meantime, I'll give them an allowance to clean up the hills and flower beds while I gather information. This includes maintaining the roads with gravel and mowing the weeds. If it's a clean, safe place to visit, you'll get more customers.

Cleanliness is important too, if you see the hills as a store! If people think it's a hill where dirty orphans hang out, they won't get customers. They'll wash their bodies and clean their clothes and tools of the trade, even if they're cheap. That alone will do the trick. The director is Midea.

Also, it turns out that even in this world, the weak-minded lose out. What a surprise, Aigis's refugee policy included orphans!

If you check with the town hall, they are looking for a tourist attraction or town cleaner. The wages are low, but the age limit is only for representatives. Even children can be hired, and if you have a cheap but stable income, it's easy to plan for the necessary income.

Moreover, if you don't have a house, it's just a big, cheap storage shed that is rented out for free. The only conditions are that you are contracted to clean the shed on an ongoing basis, and that the contents of the shed are in compliance with the regulations. These two conditions are the only ones that can be used as a residence.

At the municipal office

Um, this cleaning contract, are you sure you can only take on children?

How unusual. The King made the system, but it's very rare and not many people take advantage of it. However, if there are any scandals or cut corners, it can be cancelled.

 There's the government...

You're bemoaning the high and mighty, but there's no way a kid from the slums would come to the government office. And all they do is put up a sign. Not many slum kids can read, you know? And you think I'm going to read a solid sentence? I doubt the kids will even understand it when they can read it.

If you think this will work, you haven't done any substantive research. They just did what they were told by the top and did what they were told, is this official a messenger of kids? Apparently even the great ruler can't see the details.

Next, I'll look for something that could be used as food.

The river splits into several tributaries downstream and flows gently and beautifully from the Alp. Depending on the location, even children can catch shrimp by shibaizuke. It takes a few people but there are shallow and narrow streams. I think the current is slower and safer than the ocean.

I'll use a smaller size shiba shovel and pull up a net to make it cheaper.

Next, I also made some tenaya fishing traps and poles made from ash trees. Anya is in her element when it comes to tools. The basic material is thick flax thread, but the weight is made of twisted horse tail hair to make it look thinner. She also did a good job of redesigning it to be lighter for children.

Okay, it's time to get to the hills!

On the hilltop with a good view

The path is graveled and the path is also made up of narrow logs and gentle steps. Drainage has been improved and the path can be used as soon as it stops in case of rain. The grass has been mowed around the hill and on the road, and the tourist route has been improved.

It's just too early ... you used our mower, didn't you? It's the type of wire that spins at high speed, which is dangerous for kids, but....

'Hey! How are you progressing? I've got a job at the town hall!

 The children cheered.

Oddly enough, I'm glad there are no regulations on child labor. That would be a tragedy in reverse if it wasn't set up with the orphanage. With regulation alone, the orphans would either starve to death or go into illegal activities. Well, there's also the last resort of selling yourself into slavery...

'Do you have a government job? We're willing to pay less, please!

If a slum kid looks for a job, he is likely to be pinned down by a crook. The government can be trusted in that regard. Once you have a track record, it's easy to move on to a serious job.

Besides, apparently the kids were able to reconcile. The older bear-beastman and cat-beastman-ish kid who had been fighting with me answered.

It's cheap, but if you're over 10 years old and you're the representative, you can rent a shack for free for 16 people or more. Moreover, it has a key and a uniform. There's a simple Kamata and the water system is close by. Free vouchers for public bathrooms are also provided to those who clean them. Pretty good, huh?

He's very happy at home, and his letters seem to tell a little about the orphans whose parents were merchants. He can write his name and can barely read and write rudiments. That's more than enough for a free man.

'Ryota, you're looking much better! This is Kalilia and she represents the girls. The boy's representative is Ted. You're the ones who were fighting with the cat-beast mix and the bear-beast mix.

These two fought in their desperation to provide for their small children as well. But now they have a job to do. There's no reason to fight in this situation, and it's better to help each other.

Now let's get serious about improving our income and saving on expenses! I'm a big fan of saving money like this.
