45-Episode 18: Assassins Fight Orcs

When I went outside, the sun was setting.
 Everyone was already in place.
Neusch, Tart, and Epona are the three of us who are responsible for the vanguard.

I'm the middle guard, basically using magic to eradicate, and if the vanguard collapses, I'll follow up with that one. Dia is the rear guard and concentrates on magic.
Further behind them are Rachel, the knight, and the instructor.
Their role is to help us when we're in danger and to prevent us from leaking shots.
Also, if one of them is incapable of fighting, they will step in to take his place.

'The orcs are here?'

The view through the gap in the wall that Deer and I have created is stained a dark green of oak.
The minute the view is restricted, the ordinary soldiers on top of the cliffs are supposed to report every single one of them.

The three-meter tall dark green giants were advancing along the canyon.
The soldiers on the cliff tops shoot their bows, but their arrows are completely ineffective because of their thick skin and fat.

If it was a foul stone explosion, we could cut down our numbers at once, but we can't let that one show.
The orcs, as we had planned, aim for the narrow exit, restricted in their movements by the wall that me and Deer had built.
Watching them, me and Deere start chanting.
By the time the head of the orcs reaches the exit, our magic is completed.

''[Red Lotus Explosion]'

It's a magic that keeps on using fire magic, and it's the magic that comes down to the twenty-second or so, and it's a magic that an ordinary magician would never learn until he or she dies.

That's why its power is quite high.
A fireball the size of a basketball flew in a parabolic pattern, over the wall, landing on a group of orcs, an explosion occurred, and red lotus flames could be seen through the gap in the wall.
 The soldiers watching shout out.

''Impact! Eight enemy destroyed!

I knew it was hard. Me and Dia, two upper-level magicians with top-notch magical powers, have only managed to defeat four of them each.
However, there is no time to be rotten.
The role of the magic team is simply to use the wall as a shield to cast magic, and the more we cut down, the easier it will be for the vanguard team.

And the role of the vanguard group is, of course, to exterminate the orcs that have passed through the exit.
They are already in a position to intercept the first two that have passed through the wall.
 Epona rushes in.

''Die!''

He just randomly closed the distance and swung his back fist. The orc's belly rippled, and then it exploded, splitting his upper and lower body and slamming into the earthen wall.

Epona does not use weapons. Because if wielded with Epona's power, the weapon would shatter because it would not be able to withstand it.
And there's no need to use weapons.
........A chill runs down my spine when I think of defending that kind of thing in every mock battle.

"Let's go, Tart-kun!
Yes!

The other orc, Tart and Neusch, fought in tandem.
An impromptu but well-placed pincer from both sides, distracting the orc, Tart's spear gouging out his eye and Neusch's sharp blade slicing his wrist.
 Good.
Orcs are clad in a thick armor of hard skin and fat, and cannot be damaged by an ordinary attack.

But their eyes could easily be gouged out, and their wrists, with their thin fat and arteries running through them, would spurt blood even if it was shallow.
In fact, the orcs that were attacked by the two of them went wild, bleeding, and after a while they collapsed and went cold.

This way, we can take care of the orcs without consuming our strength.
As far as the path we made, there are only two or three orcs that can come out at a time, at most.
Epona, Noish, and Tart are enough to catch up with us to deal with them.

In the meantime, me and Deere will just burn away the orcs waiting for traffic.
At this rate, Epona won't go off the rails and we won't have to show her the secrets of Touahade.
It's a tough fight, but it's not dangerous.
We just need to repeat our current pattern.
The question is whether our strength will be exhausted first, or whether the orcs will be wiped out first.
Now the battle for the survival of the orcs has begun.

...the battle has been going on for thirty minutes now.
 That's not right.
 The fight is not over.
They must have already killed more than a hundred orcs. And yet, the enemy's momentum does not wane.

We can't see the enemy through the walls, so we rely on reports from the soldiers on the cliffs.
Neusch, who always seems to have a lot of time on his hands, exclaims with rare irritation.

'How in the world are they outnumbered!
Estimated, 120!
How could it be? We've killed at least a hundred of them!
And then, one by one, they brought in reinforcements.

Even before the battle began, I thought it was bad when the number of enemies increased by fifty percent, but I didn't expect the reinforcements to keep increasing to this point.
Already, there are 220 of them if you count the reinforcements.
Not only that, there was no guarantee that the number of reinforcements would not increase even more.
To begin with, there were far too many of them for them to be in hiding. ........I have a bad feeling about this. For example, we should even consider the possibility that a demon race with the ability to create demons is lurking in the area.
If such a thing as a demon tribe sticks out, we won't be able to take it easy by hiding our power.

''Sorry, I think we're screwed.''

Dia fell to her knees with a blue face. Magic power deficiency.
It's not unreasonable, she continued to use her higher level magic, 【Red Lotus Explosion】, for thirty minutes.

And the tart is also bad.
He began to lackluster in his movements.
He failed to duck the orc's club strike.

''Kyaaaaaahhhh.''

He just barely guards with his left arm, but he hears the sound of crushed bone and is blown away, he falls, he tries to get up, but he can't move as he seems to have twisted his leg after failing to land.

Facing the tart, the orc reaches out to him, lusting for the beast. He's going to take Tart away.

''You pig!''

The chanting of [Red Lotus Explosion] was interrupted and sprinted, and from the step that carried all the momentum of that sprint, the bottom of the palm that twisted the whole body and converged the power, the orc was flung away.

And then the wind magic [Wind Blade] that had been chanting in this series of actions was activated and sliced through the orc's carotid artery.
Even if the attack power is low, if you aim at a vital point, even an orc can be defeated.

''Lug-sama!
Tart, stand back and let me take over the vanguard.
I'm not ready to fight.
'I'm at my limit! When you can stand up, walk down.

Tart didn't argue anymore.
It's probably because he knows he'll be dragging his feet any further.
He doesn't train so softly that he can be flattered in a mere thirty minutes of battle. But the eyes of Touahade, who can see too much, have worn out my nerves.

It's more of a burden than he can imagine for the Tart, who hasn't been in possession of the Touahade's eye for very short periods of time.
If he had at least another week to acclimate, the Tart could have fought more.
Instead of Tart, he goes to the vanguard. He faces the orc while sheltering the tart on his back.

'If you come over here, who's going to beat those guys behind you?
If I don't step forward, it will collapse. Besides, the knight or the instructor has to step forward.
'Well, since we're doing this so well, it's time for you to take over.

Neusch speaks lightly, but he seems to be in a lot of pain too. I'd say it's only half an hour left.
In such a situation, an even worse situation began to happen.
Deer, who is on her knees with a blue face, exclaims.

'Lug, the wall we built!
Well, you will, won't you?

The orcs were not only lying in a daze while waiting for traffic, they were also flailing about trying to break down the d*mn wall.
.........If that was all they could manage, they could still manage it, but they were quite damaged by the wreckage of the orcs that Epona had slammed down with force, and so on.
Still, the initial numbers would have been over before they collapsed.
It was all due to a lack of perspective.

An avalanche of orcs came from behind the wall.
The wall collapsed, and all that could be seen was the same number of orcs as before the battle began. Unlike the past, five or six of them are running in side by side.
.........I was prepared for this, but I feel like I'm going to lose my mind.
There's no way I could support that much stuff. And behind me are the injured Tart and Dia, who is out of magic power.
It's no longer the time to be stingy with them.
It's not just me, we're all going to die if we don't give it our all.
That's when I put my hand on the foul stone.

"I can finally go wild. What the hell, it was a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat, a chit-chat. I'm going to kill you all!

Epona plunges in.
 She was buzzed out.
If she did that, she would be immediately surrounded and sacked.
But the orcs that surrounded Epona collectively broke apart. Epona laughed.
It's a smile when she gets hot in a mock battle, Epona once said that the reason she laughed when she fought me was because she finally found the training partner she needed to become stronger.
But now Epona is like a bloodthirsty beast.
 Is that a brave man?
Neusch's face is drawn and Tart and Dia are frightened.
Without noticing such a gaze, the rabid beast began to devour its prey.
