156 . Frontier City Training 3rd Week Part 1

After returning to King's Landing from the small frontier city of Liberty, I immediately returned to my training life the next day.

To my delight, Gaboz had returned to training from that day on.
''Hey, I managed to pass the make-up exam,''
 Gavoz said to me happily.
He was one of the five people who passed the first test, and I'm really happy to see them all back together again.

The content of the training program has visibly changed in the third week.

Until last week, the training was full of lectures on the laws of the frontier cities from morning to night, but those lectures were reduced to half a day and more group discussions were held in the afternoon.

According to the Grand Nuts, the head of the training program, this was done in order to draw out the thoughts and ideas of our fellow trainees, and then determine their suitability as lords.

In my case, the small frontier city of Liberty was upgraded to a frontier city, so I came to receive training as part of that, so there's no particular problem.
 According to Kiristic.
''It's a 50-50 split at best as to whether the lord's son will be able to take over after him, and depending on the results of this aptitude test, he could be sent to a city quite far away.
I was told that it was a good idea.

I had expected that there would be a discussion on racial supremacy in relation to Bobblebum religion as well, and as I had expected, the agenda for the third day was
"On Racial Supremacy and the Management of Frontier Cities.
 And so it was.

Most of the trainees seemed to have expected that this topic would come up at some point, so there was not much of a stir.

I was in the same group as Melanesia for the day's discussion.
I was one of the five people who passed the first test, a student of the school attended by the nobility of the royal capital.
The rest of the group was a total of five members, all of whom I honestly had only some degree of face-to-face recognition with.

Each group was joined by one staff member from the Frontier Bureau who doubled as a moderator and recorder.
The staff member was supposed to record the contents of the discussion in as impartial a manner as possible.

'Mr. Gossage, how are you dealing with this problem as the active lord of the frontier small town of Liberty?
When Melanesia spoke to me about this, I explained the current situation.
The small frontier city of Liberty, where I serve as the lord, has a population of nearly 80% sub-humans.
From among them, we select and promote capable people without regard to their race.
 in addition to this

The city's services are not basically divided into racial and subhuman services.
The city does not discriminate between races and sub-humans.
There is no discrimination on the basis of race in public events such as festivals.
Both races and sub-humans attend the same school, and classrooms are not separated according to race.

These are the realities of Liberty in a nutshell.

As expected, or rather, the staff member recording the content of the conversation had a blatant expression of disgust at what I said.
Here in the royal capital, this reaction is rather normal, and since I had made my comments with the expectation that it would probably be so, I didn't mind the staff's reaction so much.

What was surprising was Melanesia's reaction when she asked me this question.

Melanesia was listening to me, taking notes and looking very interested in what I had to say, but after I finished, she started to think about it for a while.
Normally, I would have to respond with words that glorify racial supremacy, but the idea of selecting the right person for the right job without being limited by race is a wonderful one.
As I said this, I nodded my head repeatedly, perhaps to convince myself that I was right.

The other three members of the group did not dare to touch on what I had to say, but instead they talked about how the city should be managed based on racial supremacy, which made Melanesia's statement stand out more than it should have.

All the groups seemed to have ended up discussing a simple topic.
However, I was told later that both Riknas and Kyristik had expressed quite negative opinions about racial supremacy.
I've been in contact with many subhuman maids since I was a child, and Kiristic has been in contact with subhuman maids since I was a child, so I had to agree with them.

This day, the legal training held in the morning was relatively light in content.
Why don't we get together for a drink today and get acquainted?
I decided to accept Riknas's invitation to invite everyone else to do so, as he does every day.
 Then
May I come in for a visit?
 That's what Kyristick says.
I'll go out with you.
and two of the Melanesians joined us, for a total of four people to go out for drinks.

I invited Gaboz to join us.
I mean, I'm on the make-up test, so I'll study harder.
While saying that, he left early.
As for Gaboz, despite the fact that he's come to train as a representative of the city, he's been disqualified once, so it's no wonder he doesn't have much time to spare mentally.

However, if the results of this weekend's exams are bad, tomorrow will be a disaster for me, so I think I've got to end the day in moderation.

"Anyone know of a good place to eat? I've been getting a lot of bad luck lately.
Riknas blurted out as he said this.
'Where are you looking for a store?
Yeah, just across the street, at the corner. I'm hitting the area around that diner where the diners gather, at random...
I couldn't help but chuckle as I looked around the area that Riknas had pointed at.
That area is full of race-run shops that have been in business for a long time, and most of them are more concerned with prestige, doing business by the name of the shop than by taste.
As for Riknas, he was probably always walking around with his squire, the dogman Srina, so he would have been refused entry or sent to another room that deliberately served only one level of inferior food for subhumans to accompany him.
That's because there's no way they could have had good food.

Kiristic seemed to have come to the same conclusion as I had, and a wry smile was on his face.

 I'm going to tell everyone
Don't you all mind eating in the same room with the subalterns?
When I asked them that, they all replied that they were fine.
'What?' You know a good place?
Riknas came to me with an excited look on his face.
I wish I could fit into Riknas' mouth like that.

With that in mind, I walked towards the back street.

◇ ◇ ◇.

The Three Dragons Pavilion was crammed with sub-human guests as usual.
''Yes, welcome.......oh? Are you a racial visitor? That's unusual.
The proprietress of the goblin people (goblin people) approached us with a smile.

This is a restaurant and inn run by a couple of goblin people.

When I used to live in King's Landing, I used to frequent this restaurant.
The taste of the food was to my liking, and I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant.

I'm a familiar face to the couple, but they don't seem to notice me now that I've magically changed my appearance.

'Wow, I didn't know there was a place like this,'
Riknas was looking around the store with an amused look on his face.
Melanesia was similarly looking around the store with a somewhat excited expression on her face.

Aside from Riknas, this reaction from Melanesia, who said she had been living in the royal capital all her life, was a bit unusual.
Normally, if you've been living in King's Landing for a long time, people would have been exposed to bobble bum religion, and racial supremacy would have been drilled into them, and they would have been disgusted by these subhuman-rich restaurants.

Anyway, we all asked for a recommended course and had the drinks looked at at randomly.

So I pretended to go to the bathroom and peeked into the kitchen for a bit.
'Ah, brother, what can I do for you?'
Inside the kitchen, the general of the little demon people (goblin people) was busily wielding a pot.
I turned to that old general.
Hey, captain. Long time no see.
As he whispered that, he unlocked the figure-changing magic in the face area so that only the general could see it.
''Ah!''
When he saw my face, which had broken the spell, he laughed happily and rushed to my side.

He had been a regular customer for nearly 10 years, and he remembered me well.
You are the only person of your race who came to our shop so persistently," he said.
 The general laughed at that.

For a while, the general and I chatted secretly.
At the end of that, I also told him that if there are any people in the subhuman mercenary corps who are in need of work, I'd like him to introduce them to me.
I'm sure there are a lot of people like that due to the tightening of the royal capital. Okay, I'll talk to them. Just send them to the Quinn Company, okay?
Yes, please.
I smiled at the general and reworked my magic and headed for the bathroom.

 Just for appearance's sake, though.

When I returned to my seat from the restroom, the drinks and food had already been delivered to my seat.
''As expected of a restaurant recommended by Gossage, it's the first time I've been able to taste something that I've found to be good in King's Landing.
Riknas was laughing as he said that.
He even asked for more drinks already.
'I told him to wait until Gossage got back, though.
Kiristic turns his tight eyes to Riknas.
The first thing that comes to mind is the fact that you're not the only one. You're not going to get any women if you're always wearing a businesslike face like that.

''This restaurant is really better than any of the restaurants on the front street!
Melanesia, too, is happily munching on her food.
With my return, Kyristick has finally picked up his drink.
Cheers.
As he says this, he offers me a barrel of liquor.
I match the keg of my own sake with the keg of Kiristic's sake.
Cheers.
That's what I said in return.

Good food and good drinks made it possible for us to have a meaningful dinner on this day.
