76-16-Praying to the God of Revenge

After a long battle, the war came to an end and the Empire was destroyed.
The Free Army had been defeated by the Empire.
It was a desired outcome, but there was nothing left but sorrow in the aftermath.
Everyone had lost their dearest family members, loved ones, and best friends, leaving scars all over the place, and the damage had spread to unrelated towns and villages.
 Biyomento is no exception.

When the five of them arrived in Biyomento, there was no home that the four of them knew of.
 Zephyr, Kagetra, Adolf and Khalifa.
They stood speechless at the sight of their changed homeland.
Blackened and charred houses, the wreckage of collapsed buildings, and charred corpses.

 Khalifa fell to her knees.
 Adolph was similarly paralyzed.

'Mother....'

Zephyr and Kagetra kept their eyes down.
Xiong couldn't find the words to call, and the four of them couldn't get up for a while.

Then a knight appeared from inside the town.
Zephyr rushed over as soon as he saw you.

''Um, excuse me!''
What the hell are you guys doing here?

Following Zephyr, the four of them rushed over and explained that they were from this town.

''Well, from this town...''

The knight turned away from the conversation.

'What happened to the town, what happened?'

 Khalifa asked.

'There was a growing food shortage among the soldiers, and they attacked every town and village in the vicinity.

The four of them twitched their faces.
'They were after food,' he said, 'but it was easy to imagine that this was not the only reason.

'But rest assured, the town's residents have already evacuated them to a nearby shelter before that. They should all be there.

The four of them patted their hearts at the knight's words.
The desire to go and see their families now was overwhelming.

The five of them headed to the place they were taught to cling to.
But what they found there was a tragic scene that further cut out the hearts of the four of them.

''Oh no...''

 Adolph collapsed to the spot.
The entire area of the shelter was charred and turned into a graveyard, as was the bayoument.
Next to the skeleton of the fallen hypothetical tent, the bodies were laid out in rows, one after another.

The first ones they found were those of Adolf's parents.
Barely conscious, Adolphe breaks down crying and passes out.
Khalifa softly questioned his father and mother, who had gone cold.
Tears run down his cheeks, and the tears that fall fall fall on his mother's cheeks as she lies there.
Zephyr and Kagethras silently wrapped their bodies in a cloth and placed them on the carriage without telling their parents anything.
Their expressions were dangerous, and they looked as if they were about to fall apart.
They carried the unconscious Adolph to the carriage, and his parents did the same.
They went to Khalifa's side and gently put their hands on her shoulders as she broke down in tears.

'Why, why...'

They had no answer to Khalifa's question.
Because they felt the same way.

After that, the four of them traveled back and forth between the shelter and the beyotement, bringing all the bodies of their former home families to the beyotement.
The reconstruction process began with the construction of the cemetery.
They buried each body and erected a grave marker.

'I wonder if we were wrong.........'

Khalifa muttered in front of the countless graves.
Zephyr couldn't find the words to put, so he hugged the Khalifa.

Was it good that they were on an adventure?
 Wasn't it a mistake?
Shouldn't they have turned back immediately?
We should not have participated in the war - we should not have been involved in it.

We didn't know, we didn't know this was happening we didn't know it was going to happen.

 Zephyr's words were suggestive.
He seemed to be saying to himself.

'It's not a reason we've abandoned everyone...'

Khalifa denied it, and Kagetola said.

'Yes, we only cared about ourselves. It never occurred to us that our homeland was being attacked. But this war was that kind of war. That much is easy to understand if you think about it. And all we could see was what was right in front of us... and we prioritized our own adventure...
'Adventures?

To them, war is easy, too, and is nothing more than an extension of the adventure.
No matter how much they surrendered to the conflict, there was no danger of putting their lives in danger.
The four of them thought that they had failed to notice the situation in Biyoment and that it was the price of the power they had gained from their adventures so far.
 Kagetola said.

'We missed the most important thing. We abandoned everyone we could have saved.
'Kagetra, that's not true. I had no choice in the matter.
It's true!

Kagetra strongly denied Zephyr's words, his voice echoing through the scorched earth city.

'Brother, we should have had the strength to save them, this is the result of our pride. We've abandoned everyone!

 Zephyr didn't argue back.
Because he had to admit that the pride was somewhere in there,
 'Yes,' said Khalifa.

'Yes, I suppose it could be.'
But we can change that now. No, it's the only thing left for us to do.

Kagetra said against the tone of her voice.
 He tried to be strong.
But perhaps he was at his limit, a single tear ran down his cheek.
This was the first time he had ever shown any weakness in his life.
The four of them were severely upset.

''Kagetora? .....

 Khalifa held out her hand.
But she didn't know how to speak to him.
Most of all, he couldn't afford to care when he too was feeling crushed by grief.

'It's okay, Kagetora, it's okay, you can cry at least today.'

Only Shaoan was given the words he wanted.
 Kagetra wiped away her tears.

''Well I don't want to see another war, I don't want to see my loved ones die, or anyone else die.''

At those words, Zephyr and Khalifa burst into tears.

'I will have my revenge on this world, my revenge for the war!

There was no anger in Kagetra's words.
 There was only sadness.
The four men understand what Kagetra meant by the word "revenge".
We will not let wars happen and keep the peace.
They vowed not to create another nation like the Empire.
 Vengeance was Kagetra's resolve.
But that contradicts the words, "I don't want anyone to die.
 So I was prepared.
Prepared to take on everything, prepared to bear the sacrifice.

'Vengeance God! That's right Shaoan, I'm going to make my name known to the world!

Another tear spilled from Kagetra's eyes.
 Shoulders shaking.

'The world needs a deterrent, we will be the gods...'

I can't say that Kagetola was sane.
She must have been distraught enough.
Kagetra couldn't bear the facts in front of her.
Determination, vengeance, deterrence, God, those words were also due to escape.
But there was no one in this place who could keep his cool.

'Kagetora........'

Shao'onn had his back to his eyes.

'I will not hesitate to turn my blade on anyone who flickers the shadow of war. So the casualties will continue to rise. But this is necessary. Vengeance against this world that created war I will not hesitate.

 Kagetra said at last.
There was no one to deny it.

Adolf didn't speak for the entire time.
He stared at the four men's backs with an awful, murky look from a little further away than they were.

We will rebuild this town - it was Kagetora who said this at first.
Xiaon told her, "I will help you if I can," and the other three agreed.
Biyoment is a city of the superhuman race.
That's why this city was called the City of Eternity.
But there is no eternity anymore.
Nevertheless, they vowed to rebuild the city of Biyomento.
They hoped that one day their family would be able to come back to the city again.

After five years, Biyomento has been restored.
A new way of life has sprung up, and travelers and adventurers have come to the city.
But the eternity of the past is gone.

It's all right now...

 Kagetola said.
The five of them stared at the town from outside the gate.

'Oh, this is it ... this is the way it's going to be. As long as the town is here, my family can come back. We'll always be connected.

Zephyr was looking at the same future as Kagetora.

'So the eternal city is in our hearts...'

It took Adolph five years to come to his senses.
He gazed peacefully at the city, and smiled as he stared at the once eternal city that he could see superimposed on it.

'What will you do now, is the journey over?'
No....

 Kagetora asked Xiaon's question.

'I'm actually thinking of going on another trip. I heard about the dungeon showing up, just three days ago.

It was Xiaon who taught him.
He waited for Kagetola to say something.
 Khalifa looked surprised.

''The dungeon, you don't mean that dungeon!
Ah, the Adventurer's Labyrinth. Shaoan and I will be taking on that labyrinth soon. I'm sure people won't forgive us for ending our journey here, and I'm sure they'll be sad.

Gradually, the expressions on the faces of Zephyr, Kagetra, and Adolf regained their former adventurer's look.

'Kagetra, I'm coming with you.

 Adolf said.

'I just want to reassure your mother and father that you saw me off that day. That I'm okay now.
Okay.
I'm coming with you.

 It was the Khalifa.

'What will people think when they see us standing here? ....maybe they'll laugh at me for what I'm doing.
I don't have to worry about it.

 Zephyr continued.

'Let's go, to the dungeon,'

The five of them looked at each other and smiled.
But there was something a little strange about Khalifa.
 It was Adolf.
He was the one who had been most subdued for the past few years, but now his expression was cloudless and sunny.
 That was rather eerie.
But Khalifa looked away, wondering if it was his imagination, and congratulated him on his recovery.

The last few years there has been a rash of dungeons. I heard from an adventurer who was passing by that they appeared just three years ago.
Is that so?

 Zephyr interested.

'Aye. But even months later, the dungeon disappeared, and apparently no one had ever conquered it.
Hmm....
Does that mean we'll have our first attacker this time?

 Kagetra enthused.

'It's us--'

There was a war, they lost their home and family, and sank into the depths of despair.
Nevertheless, they did not lose their way, and they started to walk again towards the path they believe in.
