763-Mechanical God Story ⑤

Wow, the stars look great.
Yeah, it's the only thing that's not happening, and I'm kind of proud of this island.

After taking a bath, Alicia and Makina both went outside the house to look at the sky. The air on this artificial island, far from land, was clear and the stars in the night sky were very visible because there was no light around except for the machina's house.
It was a strange sensation. We should have only spent only half a day together, but the air was calm and peaceful, as if we had been together for years, as if we could communicate with each other without having to say much.
It's a good idea to be able to have a good idea of what you're looking for.

''Why was I born with this kind of power?''

I felt like so many thoughts were being put into that one word. Why am I different from other people? Why do I have to be alone on this island where there is nothing to see, ever since I can remember? And the question of the meaning of my existence that I was born with this power to see the world.
It's not just a matter of time before you get to the point where you'll be able to get your hands on it. It's a good idea to have a good idea of what you want to do.

''Well? Convenience is convenient, I suppose. If I had that power, I'd find what I'm looking for with ease.

Alicia only lightly nodded her head at the question. It wasn't that she wasn't interested in such a question... there was no need to worry about such a trivial thing, just take it easy... it sounded like that to Makina.

'Does Alicia want this power?'
'No, I don't want it. I'm an outdated traveler because I believe that the only way to find something is to do it on your own two feet, and I'm an outdated traveler.

The power of clairvoyance, which many would envy, was also not something that Alicia was particularly interested in. Hearing Alicia's words, Machina smiled happily.
Alicia has no interest in her 'power'.

It's a good thing that you're a good friend. I'm happy to be friends with you like this.......but you're a traveler, so you'll be gone someday, won't you?
''I don't know if I'll be gone or if Makina will be gone, but I'm going to stay around here for a little while longer. It's a long journey with no destination anyway, and it's not a bad idea to take a detour once in a while.

Originally, Alicia had planned to move to another place, but that plan has already changed after meeting Makina. For her, living in a near infinite amount of time, time spent bonding with someone she loves is a very precious thing.
Her former best friend, her precious sister, the friends she fought with, the people she met on her journey with no guessing... they all passed away before her, leaving Alicia behind.
I really like Makina, and I even think that it might be okay to live on this empty artificial island for a while.

'I see... but I envy you. I can see it, I can know it, but I can't actually experience it.
Hmm, let's go for a walk then!
What?
It's okay, it's a small price to pay to fool the security system like this. I'm a wizard, after all. Well, it's late today, and I'm not going out until tomorrow.
Yes.

There were many puzzling aspects, but Makina was honestly delighted by Alicia's concern and smiled again.

And the next day after the first night. They slept together in a big bed, and immediately went for a walk as Alicia suggested.

''Hiya! Wow, ah, ah, Alicia!
Yeah? What's going on?
'What's the matter with you? Ugh, we're running on the ocean!

Carrying Machina, who was taller than her, lightly, in the form of a princess hug, Alicia was sprinting towards her destination.......'Running on the sea'.
Alicia was astonished when she created a Makina-like alter ego in order to fool the security system, but she was also astonished at the sight of her running on the sea as a matter of course......................Makina had been amazed all morning.

'That's right, I can at least run on the sea. I'm a wizard........oh, wait. So that's what you mean!
'What? What's with the nasty smile? I have a bad feeling, a very bad feeling...
'Well, Makina is trying to say... "If you're a wizard, you should fly! Alright, I'm on it!
'I didn't say that! Also, that look ... it's definitely not the fluffy flying one, is it? No, no, no, no!

Makina's other day was also empty, and Alicia goofed off and kicked in the air and ran up into the sky at a terrific speed.

''Hiya!
Soon - through the cloudy sky!
'I wonder if we need to go up into the clouds!
I'll be fine. I've put up a big wall, so you won't feel like you're suffocating.
I don't feel safe at all!

As it was, Alicia passed through the clouds with tremendous speed, and after running through the air for a bit as it was, she stopped and called out to Makina.

''........look, Makina. It's a beautiful view.''
"...what?

A carpet of clouds and a dazzlingly bright sun. It wasn't long before Makina's eyes were shining with excitement at the view, and Alicia announced with a smile on her face.

''Well, anyway, this is it, we've arrived!
Uh-huh? We've arrived? What?
To the destination because, you know, "all that's left to do is fall.
Do you want to... fall...? Huh? Oh, oh, that's the way - Kyaaaaaah!

The two of them dropped like skydiving and once again broke through the clouds to see a large city with tall buildings below.

That's the biggest city around! A whopping five minutes to the nearest big city!
'It's impossible for a normal person to do that, though! I mean, is this, you know, is it okay? Cha, you can land properly, right?
'Haha, well, that's easy. There's even room to spin around. We can do a couple of turns if you want.
'Don't do it! You don't have to - why would you really do it! Alicia's an idiot!

At the same time that the two girl-standers were out in the big city, in a certain place, a malice - or rather, a distorted goodness - was about to be set in motion.

'....Almost....almost...done. Now, at last ... the world will be saved.

The man muttered to himself as he operated the terminal in a room that felt somewhat dim. He had empty eyes, and yet his voice was full of conviction.
The man was a scientist. He was also a rare genius, so much so that he had once been known throughout the world. He was the world's most brilliant and universally recognized scientist, so brilliant that it is said that he alone advanced the world's science for several decades.
However, he is neither a monster nor an outsider. Other than his talent as a scientist, he was a very ordinary person.

Ever since he was a child, he loved to create something and he loved to see people smile at his inventions. He wanted to become a scientist to make inventions that would be useful and beneficial to people living in the world, and his talent has led him to create inventions that have benefited so many people.
He has an important childhood friend who has been with him since he was a child. He always shone more brightly than anyone else when he invented, and he always had a big smile on his face.
We grew up together, sometimes encouraging and supporting each other... the love of my life, who before long became my wife. I wanted them to be happy all the time, I wanted them to be smiling all the time.

But fate is inexplicably ironic. A good man who always tries to help others, who always wishes to make many people smile, and who has made it a reality, has been given the tragedy of his beloved's death in an accident.
It was as if everything he had built up had been destroyed by his very existence. Even though I shed tears to the point of being frightened, the sadness, the pain never healed.
The world that had seemed so bright before, even the smiles of the people...came to feel empty and hateful, as if it had faded away.
Yes, it was there that the man finally realized. But even if he realizes this, he can't do anything about it. Even though he was touted as a rare genius, he couldn't overturn death.

Before long, even the existence of his only daughter, the 'forgotten mementos' left behind by his beloved, began to look faded. Therefore, the man tried to keep his only daughter ... and Makina away from him. He thought that if he stayed with her, he might even turn his hatred towards her one day.......
Or maybe that was the last reason, the last conscience left in the man.......but here, the wheels of fate began to twist further.

As soon as he decided to leave Makina at the facility, the man noticed a glimpse of the mysterious power she possessed. And as he investigated, he discovered that she possessed a power that could be called clairvoyance... and he was delighted.
By that time, the man's mind had already been warped. He thought that if he used Machina's power, he would be able to create ... 'a savior who sees all the world and erases sorrow and suffering' ... a god who would save his still unhealed heart. .........
  ...you can save yourself.
The person who could tell him that this was a mistake was not there beside him.

To a man, it is only good intentions. But good intentions that have been distorted are, if possible, worse in nature than bad intentions.
And what was more ironic than anything else........he had the talent to be able to realize the delusional statement of 'creating a god' and so on.
If Makina hadn't been born with the power of clairvoyance.......if he hadn't had such a great talent......the future that came to him might have changed into a different form.

'....a little more....a little more......and I will be......saved.

But the gears had already started to turn, distorted. As if in pity the man's back, who was working with madness, was staring at the back of the man-made god that had been assembled.
