229 - - CHAPTER XXII -- THE MORNING OF DEPARTURE

When I started living in the main temple in the Holy City, I noticed something when I saw the priests in this temple.

That is the closeness between the priests and the congregation.

Usually, priests seem to be more superior and pompous, but the priests here were a little different.

"Yes, your treatment is finished.

"Thank you, priest!"

"From now on, please take it easy and come to me as soon as you feel sick."

"Yes, sir!"

It's like everyone is looking at me the same way they are looking at the congregation.

Of course the congregation has respect for the great priests, but the priests didn't seem to be acting arrogant.

Maybe it's because the main temple is in decline in this holy city.

But the fact that even the most important head of the temple was working from the same perspective as the congregation made me feel that there was more to it than that.

"I knew they were different from the priests in other temples.

Living in the Holy City, we also checked out our rivals, the priests of other gods.

But I never had a good feeling about the priests of the mainstream gods.

They just seemed like priests I knew too well.

"Okay, next in line."

Yeah, we can't lose this one!

"Alright! Let's keep up the good work this afternoon!"

 Tracy.

Late at night, after everyone had gone to bed, I was talking with the temple director.

 With a decision.

"You are serious, aren't you?

The temple director looks at me with concern.

 But my resolve is unshakable.

"Yes, they have done a lot of work for this temple. But I cannot be the only one who is protected by the Temple!

Yes, Lakshis have worked very hard for the temple.

They rebuilt the temple, healed the congregation, expanded the fields behind the temple, and even kept the people safe by defeating the demons around the Holy City.

Furthermore, they stood up against the tyranny of the priests of the god of war who came when we were away, and we are truly indebted to them.

If we do nothing after they have done so much for us, we would feel sorry to the Lord God.

I understand. I will respect your will.

The chief priest seemed to be troubled and smiled, but he seemed to respect my wishes and gave me permission.

"But you must be careful.

"Thank you, Temple Director!"

 ◆

"All right, let's go then!"

The morning of the pilgrimage finally arrived.

We finished our preparations and left the temple to begin our pilgrimage.

"What?"

There was the head priest, Tracy and the other priests of the temple, as well as the congregation who had been frequenting the temple.

"Good morning. Good morning, everyone."

The temple directors seemed to have come to see us off.

"The pilgrimage is a very difficult journey. It is not only the harshness of the journey and the demons that attack you, but also the competition. If you feel that it is really dangerous, you can abandon the pilgrimage without worrying about us.

They must have been very worried about us. The chief priest told us that if we were in danger, it was okay if we lost, but to come back safely.

I honestly never thought he would say that.

It warmed my heart to know that the head temple director was so kind and caring for someone who was in charge of such a big city.

I was amazed that there are such a capable person among the high priests. It's so different from the past lives and previous lives.

In my previous life, I had been full of people who tried to make me work for free, saying that it is a wonderful thing to be able to work for God and that it is shameful to ask for a reward, or on the contrary, they tried to use me to increase their own fame and line their own pockets.

But this is a commission we accepted.

We can't walk away from it.

Most of all, we like the people of this temple.

Good people who will face us and the congregation with the same perspective in a city of political strife.

That's why we want to do our best for them.

"Don't worry. We'll take care of it!"

"Well, ......, you are indeed very amazing girls, but be careful not to be overconfident in your own strength and be on your guard."

"""""" Yes!

The temple director was concerned about us and warned us to be on our guard.

He really is a good man.

Well, I'm off.

"Yes, please be careful."

After announcing our departure to the temple director, Ms. Tracy stepped forward.

Huh? Does Ms. Tracy have something to say about this? I was thinking ......

"So let's go, gentlemen."

And to my surprise, Tracy was willing to accompany us on our journey!

Upon closer inspection, one can see that Tracy is carrying a pack on her back and holding a long mace with a chunk of metal at the end in her hand. She looks like she's in full outing mode.

What? Are you going to be there too, Tracy?"

We were surprised that Tracy would join us.

"What? Didn't you know? You need at least one temple official from the Holy City to make the pilgrimage."

"What? Oh, really?

What is that? I didn't hear that, Mr. Phoca!

"Yes, the pilgrimage is akin to the pilgrimage in mythology. So we need someone who has been working in the temple of the Holy City for at least five years to play the role of the young man who started the journey. Instead, those who have been with the temple for less than five years or those who are collaborators from outside the temple are considered to be latecomers in the mythology.

"Otherwise, only the best mercenaries and adventurers from outside would take part in the pilgrimage, and the sacred rites would be lost."

The temple director adds to Tracy's explanation.

"I see what you mean.

It is true that if all the participants in a sacred ceremony were paid outsiders, the meaning of the ceremony would be lost.

"In the past, I used to participate as a representative, but I'm getting too old to move around as much as I'd like, so I was thinking of withdrawing this year.

The head of the temple told us that he had actually intended to abstain from the pilgrimage.

But," Tracy said. But, Tracy said, if there is anyone who can help this desolate temple, I want to do my best to help.

At the temple director's words, Tracy straightens her posture and bows to us.

"I was not originally capable of making the pilgrimage. But if you are willing to help us so much for the Temple, I want to help you as much as I can!

There is no deception in Tracy's desperate words as she bows her head and speaks.

"I may cause you a lot of trouble, but please help me! I want to be of service to all of you! Please, please, please!"

So I decided, or rather we decided.

"Tracy, please look up."

I tap Tracy on the shoulder and ask her to look up.

"Well, ......."

"We need Tracy, who has prayed earnestly in the temple, to help us on our pilgrimage. I'm not going to slow you down."

Yes, the people of this temple were serious about their congregation.

It is ironic that the number of congregations has decreased so drastically, but still Tracy and her friends are doing their duty as priests.

Otherwise, a failing church would disappear in a heartbeat.

"That's right! If we can't participate without you, then we should ask you to come!

Mr. Gyro seems to like Ms. Tracy's determination and welcomes her with a hearty laugh.

"Well, that's what I mean. Besides, we both wanted to go on a pilgrimage, so we should consider ourselves lucky that our interests coincide.

"Thank you all for ......!"

Tracy looks up with a twinkle in her eye at being accepted by us once again.

"All right, then, let's go on our pilgrimage!"

""""""Oh!!!""""""

""""Good luck, girls! Come back if you're in danger!!!""""

And so our shouts and the cheers of the congregation echoed through the town.

The crowd was so loud that it echoed through the town.

"So that's where the pilgrimage starts."

As we approached the venue of the starting point where the pilgrimage would be held, we could see that many people had already gathered there.

Yes, this is where all the participants will start their pilgrimage. From the Holy City, they will follow the pilgrimage through several towns and villages, and the winner will be the one who has reached the place of pilgrimage in the sanctuary.

Listening to Tracy's words, we arrived at the venue.

The number of participants was still quite impressive.

All of them gathered for the ritual.

They must have gathered some very skilled people.

"Wow, there are so many people. ......"

But if you look closely, there's something wrong with the scene: ......

"Ohohoho, victory goes to the temple of my god of business.

 Muscular steel flesh and ,

"Oh dear, it's the temple of our god of war."

The steel of the body is well-trained,

""Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho (noisy bass voice)""

Sparks were flying.

Yes, the venue was filled with countless number of amazons.

"""""""...... wow"""""""
