35 Episode 34: Uses of morale

While Theresia warns me of the demon's approach, I approach the demon I defeated and check it out. We'll start with the gaze hound.

"Monocular dog........gaze (gaze)? If you stare at me with these eyes, I'll certainly be upset.
'There are a lot of demons that will have a bad effect on us with their eye power, but you can assume that the first one will set it off first.

A grey, wet-looking gaze hound with grey, wet-like fur. It could be used as is for a broom or something else - maybe to make a tool to sweep the floor. Dog lovers would be offended by this as outrageous.

'I'm a dog person and I didn't hesitate to attack you because you have such a scary look on your face.
I know, I know. You don't show mercy to a demon and it will get us killed.

Igarashi liked Falma's dog, but he liked dogs in general. Some breeds have this kind of hair, so you had to be prepared to attack them.

'Their teeth are nice - they're all pointy like needles, though.
'If he bites you, you can't hurt him...'
I wonder what's available as material.
''Since the hair contains moisture, it seems to be effective in preventing flames. And then there's the 'mop' that some explorers equip...
Is there such a thing as a cleaner? Other worlds can be anything!

She's a gambler, but it's true that not many people would dare to choose a job as a 'cleaner'. If I tried to write with the nuance of an assassin, I'd really be a janitor or something like that - as expected.

But at this size, I can't take the material home with me. As I think about it, Elitia offers me a helping hand.

'If you've rented a warehouse, you could just send in a demon of this size, right?
Do you want a ride? You can't do that.
'When you rented the warehouse, you were given a key. With that, you can send all the non-living things that can be transferred to the warehouse, including the demons you killed. You can transfer them up to ten times in a single search, though.

The capacity of the warehouse isn't too big, and if you can send it ten times, it's enough. It's hard to enter a warehouse with too many demons piled up, so it's hard to throw them in carelessly, no matter how much they are harvested.

The only thing that helps is to have a demolition company in your group. Being able to dismantle them by skill...''
There are 'stripping knives' and 'butcher's knives', but they're no match for the 'dismemberment' skills of an expert craftsman.
We'll have to scout this one out. Brother, do you have any idea what you're talking about? I'll recruit the demolition company in one shot!

When I think of it, Mr. Rykerton and his daughter, Melissa, come to mind. However, seeing that Melissa right after she was dismantled, I'm a little worried about Elitia reacting to the blood.

The monster that's going to come after my clothes isn't that a chameleon?

Igarashi looks at the plain eater and says what he imagines it to be. The figure that had stopped moving with its mouth open - it was so big that a small child would have swallowed it, and it had a blade-like exoskeleton on the outside of its arms. I'm really glad it didn't attack me with this.

'Its tongue is long... how many meters long is this thing? It looks like it's wrapped in some kind of cloth...''
Can I cut off my clothes with my tongue and my tongue?

The plain eater's tongue is a great roll up of Igarashi's "Silk Claus". The tongue in "Blake's Tongue" is probably the tongue.

I've heard that tongues are used for materials and food, but the most valuable part of the tongue is the leather. Like the boots Theresia wears, it reacts to the user's magic and turns invisible.

If you ask Theresia to try it out, only her legs will become invisible. This means that you need to make a chameleon suit to make your whole body invisible.

'Isn't it possible to make a cape to make a full body invisible? It could be useful in a surprise attack.
'I don't blame Ms. Theresa for needing her thorn gear, but not Mr. Rear. You must feel guilty about that kind of equipment.
'Is it possible that this chameleon is also tearing his clothes for some reason...?
Demons only act on instinct. Destroying their armor will give them an advantage and........oh. Arihito, I'd better check the inside of the plain eater's stomach later. These demons can hold indigestible things in their bodies.
'Oh, oh ... can I ask the demolition guy to do it? I'm not afraid by any means, though.

I've handled fish before, but I have no experience with chameleons. It occurred to me that I would eliminate every possibility of a gaze hound as a sentiment, but what about chameleon as an edible item?

'Okay, you don't have to tell me. I've eaten things in my life that I didn't know what meat they were, but I've learned that you're happier when you don't know...
'In a long labyrinth, you'll need to add a cook to your searchers and stave off hunger with demon meat. The loss of food is even one of the top reasons for abandoning a quest.

Igarashi looked hatefully at the chameleon that had come after his equipment, but seemed to be sitting back when the subject of eating or not eating came up.

Theresia is holding her hand carefully, as if to say that the jerky she is carrying in her pouch is her staple food.

''........Oh, um. It's not fair for me to say this, but why don't we conquer the long labyrinth little by little, going out and so on along the way?
'Yes, I would if I could. Is Suzuna not allowed to have demon meat at all?
We didn't have a lot of meat in our diet so fish and tofu were the substitutes for meat.
'Then I'll have a hard time with the food over here. I haven't seen any fish or tofu at the moment.
'If you're an Otouf, there's a restaurant that serves it if you go to the upper wards, since it was handed down by a reincarnated cook. We have sushi and templa. Not all demons are ingredients.

The meat that I didn't know what it was, in other words, it was demon meat - well, sure, if you didn't know what it was, it could taste like a cow or a pig, and I wouldn't mind if I put it in my stomach.

'We tried a lot of things when we went abroad with our parents, so it's okay! I can eat frogs and other normal foods.
'Kaeru..............they say you can eat them, but I wouldn't dare.

I agree with Igarashi-san and I agree with him, but it seems like it would be better to face the menu of the town's cafeteria and check what meat it is, just in case you need it. If there's anything other than demon meat, though, I'd likely choose that as my priority.

'Tofu, you have tofu........and sushi and tempura. I have to thank the cook for telling us.
I'm starting to enjoy this one. The Japanese just can't seem to forget the taste of soy sauce.

If there is a tofu, there is also a soy-like one. There may be subtle differences, but I'd like to taste it for myself at least once.

'Do you like Japanese food, Rear? Then we'll have to get some soy sauce we'll have to get it somehow.
'Shouyu is manufactured in very small quantities and is as expensive as potions, so if you go to a Japanese restaurant, you'll be paying gold for the condiment alone.

Still, I'd like to visit it at least once. Another reason to move up the pecking order - Igarashi-san is also motivated, so let's devote ourselves to exploring in order to eat good food.

 ◆ ◆ ◆

We then had a few battles with the Gaze Hounds, but we encountered a situation where we had to be careful. When there were four enemies, two of them were stopped by Igarashi-san and Theresia, but they turned around to the side and two of them came running through from both sides.

''Arihito, I'll take one of them...!
Okay ... we're in one piece now!
"Yes!

With Elitia's speed, it wasn't too difficult to move immediately after being passed by the vanguard and stop one of them.

(There's a chance the other one won't fall under our attack we'll just have to get that one.)

Before attacking, I slid my finger over the license and called up the skill acquisition screen. And the one I chose was 'Backstand'.

' --Geez!

 Current Situation

Alihit's attack hits the "Gaze Hound D".
Suzuna's attack hits the Gaze Hound D. Supporting damage 11.
Misaki's attack hits Gaze Hound D. Support damage 11

I still can't fall with three shots. The counterattack comes before the second shot - I said as I stepped ahead of Suzuna and Misaki, who were diagonally in front of me.

''You two, sidestep!
What...?
Aricht-san...!

The gazehound kicks the ground and leaps at me - its fang-filled mouth snaps open. But in that moment, I imagine going behind the gazehound.

 Current Situation

Arihito activates "Backstand" → Target "Gaze Hound D".
Arihito moves to the rear of Gaze Hound D

With a clunk, my 'forward' gaze hound snaps its fangs. I went behind the gaze hound and successfully avoided his attack - and.

 Current Situation

Alihit's attack hits the Gaze Hound, dead center.
 Defeat one "Gaze Hound".

He landed and didn't miss the momentarily confused gaze hound and shot through it with an ebony sling. The response was different than usual, and it felt like the blow he gave was bigger than usual.

''Yi, now ... brother, didn't you disappear for a moment?''
'Indeed, the demon attack almost hit me and then Arihito-san, in a huff, disappeared...'
'It was a close call now, so I used my backhandedness. I can't make a series of shots though...

Just by using 'Backstand' once, the bar of magic power has been reduced by a third. Considering the effect, it's normal for it to be reduced by that much, but I'd like to have a way to reduce the wear and tear.

(You can use it to move behind the shield role and all sorts of other things... I didn't expect to be able to use it like I do now, but the ease of backstopping is huge.)

I thought it was flexible since there was no indication that it 'targets only allies', and I'm glad I was right. I could have asked Suzuna and Misaki to receive it by applying 'Support Defense 1' to them, but it was a risk to have the two rearguards receive it.

'Thank you, Arihito-san but that was reckless. I also have a little more defense with this cape, so if it comes down to it, I can use it as a shield.''
'Oh I'm sorry. I'm a bit upset now. I've been thinking about the possibility of you breaking ranks, but it's a lot harder to deal with than I expected.
Rear Admiral, I'm sorry I let you outrun the enemy so easily.
..........
'We both took out two of them, so there's nothing to apologize for. I got to try out my new skills too, so it was a win-win.

If I had the skills to keep them from passing the vanguard, I'd be more stable. For now, we can only ask Elitia to get in behind the vanguard and serve as insurance.

''More importantly, were Igarashi-san and the others okay? Didn't you get the 'stare'?
No, I knew it was once, but I was able to move quickly.
..........

Igarashi-san and Theresia seem to be the same. It seems that "morale" can also be used to cure minor abnormalities, and the morale I raised with "Support Elevation" is reduced by 20 points every time I solve a stun.

And when I noticed that Suzuna and Misaki were the only ones who hadn't used up their morale, their morale was up to 100. It seems that 100 seems to be the limit.

''Suzuna, you said earlier that everyone's body was glowing, how does it look now?''
''Well ... ah ... me and Misaki-chan's glow is getting stronger.
Okay. Are you motivated or something like that?
'I'm fine for now, but... that? Brother Alihit, what do you think this is?

Misaki takes out her license and shows it to me. On it, it was labeled 'Morale Release Available'. No matter which screen you change to, it is always displayed in the upper right corner of the screen.

'Morale release........Wait, doesn't that sound a little cool? Can I try?
'No, wait a minute. Elitia, do you know what 'morale release' is?
'What ... that's the indication you're getting? 'Cheerleader' or something like that, which should be rare unless you're organizing a position like that...

Elitia checked the display. Then she looked at Misaki and Suzuna and said.

''Morale Release'' is a powerful skill that is specific to that position that is activated. But even so, I didn't expect my morale to build up to the limit with this number of battles.

I'm well aware of how useful 'Support Elevation 1' is. The accumulated morale has several uses, and 'morale release' seems to be one of them.

'You can't know if you don't try everything, so why don't you try it in a direction where no one else is?'
Sister Kyouka, that's a good point. My grandfather also said that you should regret everything you do before you do it.
'Mr. Aricht, can I try it too? Or is it better to preserve it?
'I should keep it as a trump card, though, once I know what the effects are. I don't even know if it's for combat or not, so can I have a look at it once?

Suzuna and Misaki nodded and turned in the direction of no one - and.

'Morale release, 'Fortune Roll'!
"Morale release, 'moonlighting'!

The two 'morale releases' have separate effects. I was just thinking that, but my eyes widened when I saw the license display.

 The current situation

Misaki activates the "Fortune Roll" and her next action is sure to succeed.
 Suzuna activates "Tsukuyomi" → Success

Suzu, what's going on? Hey, Suzu!
Hey, hey... what's the matter, Suzuna?

Suzuna's body was enveloped in a pale light. As I walk around in front of her, I see a moon-like pattern emerge in her eyes.

She touches my arm. I realize that she's telling me to let go, and I back away - and I do.

The direction Suzuna is pointing in - all the way ahead, a pillar of blue-white light, the same color as the one that enveloped her, rises up. After a while, it disappeared as if nothing had happened.

''Huh........''

Suzuna almost falls to the ground as if a thread has broken. When I hurriedly support her, she looks at my face - cringe-worthy, temperature-less eyes that take my breath away.

But the light comes right back into Suzuna's eyes. When she realizes that I'm supporting her, her cheeks flush a little as she says, ''I'm sorry.

''I'm sorry... what's wrong with me... my head is so fuzzy...''
'Yo, good........Suzu, if it's my fault you got out of it, what are we going to do?'

Misaki slumped into place. If Suzuna's "Moon Reading" was successful thanks to the effect of the "Fortune Roll", would the original have a low success rate? The effect and nothing else, it's impossible to understand everything just by looking at it once.

''This is Suzuna's morale release.......there must be something in that place of blue light.......''
What do you wanna do, Mr. Rear?
'Let's go and find out. I wasn't expecting this to happen, but the search is always unpredictable and more importantly, I'm terribly curious.
Thank you, I think I can stand up on my own now.

Suzuna gently moves away from me and tidies up her messy hair. She seemed to have only been weak for a moment, and there was no sign of any decrease in her strength or anything else. However, both Misaki and Suzuna's morale had dropped to zero.

''.........''
'Theresa, do you remember where you are? That would help.

Theresia leads us on. But the place we arrived at was empty and looked like nothing more than a grassy knoll.

'............
'No, it's too early to decide there's nothing there. If there's nothing on the surface let's dig it out.
I don't know if spear digging is the way to go but the most appropriate tool is this one.

Mr. Igarashi thrusts his cross spear into the ground. Her chest, mended with a red scarf, is bouncing loudly as she digs - I'm worried that it won't hurt. Teresia is also beside her, and begins to scrape the ground with her shortsword.

'Rear-kun, dig a little and then we'll take over... hmmm... I hit something hard.
'Wait, let me try to get the dirt out of the way. This is.....

Igarashi asked me to stop digging, and as I cleared away the black earth, I found what looked like a stone slab. It looks like something is buried in the ground.

''It looks like ... something's buried there.
That sounds pretty big, too. We'll dig in together.
Hey, there he is! Let's dig in, dig in!
You should go get a tree limb for your hand, it hurts. I'll spear you down.

A cross spear is used like a pair of high pruning scissors. Don't be impressed that it can be used in place of a spade - I'll be bringing a mining tool with me next time.
