212 Episode 212: Mari Kurosaki II

 Where is this...

 I, Mari Kurosaki, look around.
It was pitch black and I couldn't see anything. All I could make out was that, although it was vague, it seemed to be surrounded by plants and trees.

When I look up at the sky, I see a thing that seems to be the moon, a satellite, obviously bigger than the moon I know, shining.

And I check my own wrist.
The space between my arm and my palm, which not long ago had been in searing pain.......was firmly connected.

 ''What is this........''

I couldn't help but clutch the pendant on my chest.
When was the last time........it was a gift from my father.

It's not just the same for me, it's also the same for my sister, Airi, and Moea, who both received pendants of a similar type, but different colors.
The red one for big sister, the blue one for me and the yellow one for Moea.

We were close sisters, and I remember being genuinely happy because it was a cute little thing.

I never dreamed that that would be our father's last gift.......or even a conversation.

It's okay, though. It's okay. It's okay. They're all around. I'll see you soon.

 I told myself.
I took a deep breath and calmed my mind.

 I hope it's a dream, if possible.
But it's not a dream in my senses. Let's act on the hypothesis that this is indeed a reality, not a dream, for starters.

First I look up at the sky again.
The full moon in the night sky is obviously huge. It's not a supermoon or anything like that.

 There are four possible hypotheses.

1 The moon is suddenly huge.
2 The moon and the earth come close to each other.
3 Go back in time and come to a time when the moon and the earth are not far apart.
4 It's not the moon in the first place. And this isn't Earth either.

 .........
 .........

 Hmm, that's funny, isn't it?

First of all, one is not. There's no way it's a sudden change in mass. Well, that makes two more likely.
 But.....

I knew it was time travel, or I'm on a different planet, or I'm on a different world...

I am reminded of a strange phenomenon that occurred before I came to this strange place.
I was definitely on the station platform.
I found myself in this place.

1 or 2 would explain why the moon was huge, but it wouldn't explain why I had suddenly moved to this place.

'I'm pretty much poisoned by my sister and Moea too...'

I sat down with that thought in mind.
It would be best not to move until it was light for now.

I rolled over and looked up at the sky.

'The moon is different, but the starry sky is very different too.'

 Speaking of which....
What was that voice? You know, that childish voice.

 Hello?

I shouted loudly to the sky.
 Then.
 .........
 .........
 .........

 He's not responding.

 A sigh escapes me.
I turn over and shift my gaze from the sky to the forest. The same darkness as ever........what?

Something like a small light is approaching us.

 Maybe it's a person.

 ''Oi!

I waved my hand at the light.
The light gets closer and closer.

 And then.....
My eyes dimly caught the owner of the light.

 'Eh ... lie, right?'

 It wasn't a person.
It was a creature that walked on four legs, a creature I had seen both in the zoo and in the zoo... a wolf.

But it was far more massive than any wolf I had ever seen.
Maybe it was as big as a tiger.

I retreated backwards from my sitting position.
If I showed my back, they would attack me. Such was the instinct I had.

But such a modest resistance on my part was in vain.

 ''Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Suddenly, a warm, raw wind caressed my neck.
I understood in an instant what the wind was, I did.

 I slowly looked back.
There was a pair of golden eyes. The wolf's breath caressed my neck.

I found myself surrounded by golden eyes.
The circle of encirclement narrowed, little by little.

'Hahaha, I'm not good, am I?'

 Still, somewhere, I was calm.
Perhaps, somewhere in the back of my mind, I thought it was a dream. No, I wanted to think it.

You don't think you're going to let yourself, a high school girl, get attacked by a pack of wolves?
That's ridiculous. It's too ridiculous to be unrealistic.

 Maybe it's a dream.
If I didn't answer the door, someone would come to help me.

That illusion was shattered by a sudden, intense pain in my shoulder.
With a searing pain, my body is lifted up and thrown out.

 Hardly, it hits the ground.

 ''I don't want to!!!!!

Sharp blades attacked my arms, my legs, my stomach, my chest, my face.
The blade digs into my flesh, tearing it apart.

My limbs leave my body and my guts are pulled out of my abdomen.

With a chuckle, the sound of the wolf chewing my flesh was the only sound that strangely rang in my ears.

 ''U........ah.......''

The next thing I knew, I was sinking in a pool of blood.
I can't think of anything, probably due to the lack of blood. But the pain is the only thing that's clear.

The wolf again (...) bites my shoulder, trying to rip my right arm off.
It cracks and shatters the joint.
Another wolf bites my arm and pulls wildly.

The shredded joint and flesh creaks and leaves my body.

 'Y-ya........'

My eyes, which were misty with tears, saw an inexplicable object.
There are ten objects that seem to be my limbs. Naturally, I only have four limbs on my body.

Once again (...) I feel intense pain in my right arm.

 It's the same way.
One of them sticks its fangs into the joint and another one pulls forcefully.

Like cotton being torn off, my arm is trying to leave my body again.

 ''... again?''

 Suddenly, I realized.
Why is he still conscious? Why wasn't he dead? Why didn't my suffering end?

Four wolves were biting at my chest and abdomen, dragging my guts out.

I should be dead by now.
My stomach, my intestines, my lungs, and my heart have been let out of my body too many times.

 But they won't die.
No matter how many times I am dragged out of my body, my organs, my limbs will not disappear.

 I won't die.
 I won't die.
 I won't die.
 I won't die.

 When will I die?

 My eyes get misty.
 Tears stream down my face.

No amount of tearing and bleeding will drain the moisture from my body.

 I can't die.

The entire wolf pack was full, and it was only the next morning when they stopped eating me.
