298 Episode 298: The End of All I

With the overthrow of General Clue...
The Roselle Kingdom Army collapsed easily.

It's as if it was originally held together by General Clue's charisma and the 'charm blessing' he possessed.
It's obvious that it will collapse if that is lost.

 A collapsed army is fragile.
The Roselle Kingdom's army was met with a thorough pursuit by the Romarian army it was destroyed.

Now, the problem is with Alexios.
This one seemed to have won without difficulty.

Safely, they were able to meet up with the separate squad led by Alexios and the others.

''But........it's a fragile thing. The Roselle Kingdom is........''
 'Well...'

 I ministered to Ron's words.
Having defeated General Kryu, the military resistance of the Roselle Kingdom had completely disappeared.

Of course, there were still remnants in many places.
But the organized resistance is over.

All that was left to do was to invade the capital of the Roselle Kingdom and...
We can give the crown of the Roselle Kingdom to General Balthazar and the prince.

We don't want to invade Gaul, the mainland of Roselle's kingdom.
If we go that deep, the war will never end.

 So it's all over now.
The unification of the Adelunian Peninsula will be achieved.

And it's right around the corner.

"As I told you, General Kryu," he said, "we've lost to Romalia. "We were defeated by Romalia.

 I spoke to Ron.
General Clue didn't say anything about losing to me, who had taken him out directly, or to Bartolo, who had come up with the plan...he didn't say anything.
He said he was defeated by Romalia.

What he meant by that I think I know what he meant.

It was Bartolo's plan to frame General Clue, and it was I who took out General Clue.
But the reason why General Clue fell for Bartolo's plan was because of the presence of Alexios and Roseward, two powerful auxiliary forces.
He was so concerned about the short term battle that he was in too much of a hurry.......and his vision was limited.

Besides, the activities of Ron and Gram were also important.
If those two men hadn't made a solid move Bartolo's plan wouldn't have worked.

 And finally .....
It is because of the Blessed Virgin Mary that I have been able to overpower General Crau, and the source of his power is the people of Romalia.

On the other hand General Clue was always alone.
That can't be called the total power of the Roselle Kingdom, but it's not very good.

Even if I or Bartolo were killed, the Romalian army would still manage to fight and retreat successfully.
But Roselle's army couldn't do that.
Because General Clieu was fighting alone.

''The point is, a country can't be supported by one person. A country that relies on one person will look like this. The Roselle Kingdom was probably at its limit to begin with, wasn't it?
'Well you learn a lot when you see the Kingdom of Roselle. It's a counterintuitive lesson, though.

When I think about it, I feel that the Roselle Kingdom was quite overwhelmed.
It was originally a Gaulish country, but they had moved into the Adelian peninsula and forced the Adelians to rule over it.

It had been managed to be held together by King Roselle, Generals Kryu and Balthazar, and Merlin.
But then King Roselle died, Merlin was driven out, and Generals Kryu and Balthazar had fallen out...
 General Clieu was now alone.

 That last pillar was broken.
 .........
 .........

 Huh?

'Speaking of which, where's Merlin? I heard he was back in the Kingdom of Roselle?

 I suddenly remembered.
It's funny how that woman doesn't do anything.

I've heard that Merlin is also the father of General Liu.
It wouldn't be surprising if she came to his rescue.

...what are you skipping out on?

Isn't it strange that he doesn't do anything?

You don't get to tell me that, leader.
But Ron made a face as if he wanted to say it.

No, it's true that I wouldn't understand if I said that to Ron.
 But it is strange.

They must be up to something.

'Well, well, well, Your Majesty. I'm just a magician after all and I can't do much. It's a good thing you didn't come out. Let's conquer North Adelnia while you still can.

 Hmmm....
Well, there's certainly no point in worrying about that now.

After that, we divided the army into six divisions.
And me, Bartolo, Alexios, Ron, Gram, and Rosward, led by six of us each.
They conquered various parts of Northern Adelnia.

Since there was no organized resistance from the Roselle Kingdom in North Adelnia, the conquest of various parts of the country proceeded without delay.

The problem here is the distribution of territory........
The three countries that were directly adjacent to it, Fardham, Domorgar and North Gilbed, were given the adjacent territories, while the rest of the countries were distributed their wealth in spoils and money.
The rest were then made directly under the Kingdom of Romalia.

There were two ways to control this land directly under Northern Adelunia.
Firstly, indirect rule through the powerful local Gauls.

The powerful Gauls who cooperated with us during the war, or protected our friendly neutrality, have been allowed to retain their interests as much as possible.
This amounts to a third of the entire Northern Adelnia.

The remaining third is ruled by sending nobles from the center.
Well, when I say control, it's only to collect taxes and report to the center whether or not flood control is necessary.

The Adelnians in Northern Adelnia are not good at running local politics on their own, due to their years of peasant life.
We will have to take care of them until they can stand on their own two feet.

 The last third.....
We will have the peasants of South Adelnia colonized.

They will act as the nails to our rule in Northern Adelunia.

If something goes wrong, we will turn them into soldiers
We're ready to take immediate military action in North Adelunia.

Well once we've secured North Adelnia, all we need to do is take down the capital of the Kingdom of Roselle and we'll be ready to go.
But we have a happy miscalculation.

The king of the Roselle Kingdom (which we recognize as a fake king) has been deposed.
The main reason for this is that his biggest backer, General Clue, is gone.

And so General Balthazar and the prince returned to the Kingdom of Roselle in the clear light.......and became the ruler of Roselle.
As per the original agreement.......the Kingdom of Roselle formed an alliance with our country and joined the Romarian Federation.

The Gauls themselves are not extinct or anything, so they are a national power that can never be underestimated.
However, they are not that big of an enemy in terms of the current Kingdom of Romalia.

 In other words........
There are no more enemies to threaten Romalia.

There are a lot of internal issues that need to be addressed, but we can take our time to sort them out, little by little from now on.

'So, the war is over now. Father-in-law.

I was here to visit the grave of my father-in-law, or the previous King Rosais.
Julia, Tetra, Alice and the children were with me.

I've been so busy I've never been able to visit his grave properly.
Well, we always came once a year but we didn't stay long.

'Come to think of it, we started out in a small village.

Tetra said as she thought back.
'Well meeting Master Gryphon was a turning point in many ways.

'So you met me. And then ... what a wealthy family we've become, Armes.

 Julia said with a laugh.

 'And then you saved me!
Yeah, that's a little too fast.

 I denied what Alice said.
The process of becoming a king is missing.
In addition, you can't skip the episode where the first child was born.

"Well, that's what united us for some reason or another...
You're the first one to skip it.
There's just too much stuff in there.
'For the first time with me ... well, please don't summarize the episode you did with me for whatever reason.

Julia, Tetra and Alice said with a bitter smile.
 Yeah, May.

There's so much going on, I can't remember much.

Well, I can remember later. For now ... it's all over, that's all.
Ha, ha, it's too soon to be over.

Merlin will also say something like.
Well, now that the Adelian peninsula is unified, we can take a break there...

 Huh?

Hey, good to see you. Can you try to kill me anyway?

Merlin appeared out of nowhere and said something like that...
 He raised his sword.

I quickly draw the sword from my waist and release it.
As expected of a dragon killer.

In an instant, he sliced Merlin's sword in half.
I quickly swiftly swing my sword in a follow-up attack.

Merlin's right hand is sliced open and he flies through the air.
But instantly, his right hand grew back.

 Outrageous........

Ha-ha, that's not gonna do it, okay?
 ....

Calm down, this guy sure does have a troublesome spell.
 It's called "Immortality Protection.
But this blessing isn't actually "immortality".

The body is merely repairing itself.
 When you die, you die.

 Die!

I swing my sword in one swift motion, fleshing it out.
 My aim is Merlin's neck.

'Oops ... this is inevitable ... it's too soon. How much more followers are you gaining?

My sword sliced through Merlin's neck.
His neck flies through the air.
But immediately the section of the neck swells up and the body begins to regenerate.

 But.........

 'Hah!!!!'

I thrust my sword into Merlin's head.
Again and again I thrust it in.

 And then....

 Regeneration has stopped, huh?

 Merlin was not resurrected.
 You mean ... dead?

 You okay?

I made sure my family is okay.
Well for now it looks like they're not hurt.

Where the hell did they come from....
 No, it's okay. You're dead.

 ...............
 .........

 Are you sure he's dead?

Well, one thing is for certain.
...you can't end it until you're sure Merlin is dead.
