109 # 109 Highway and checkpoint.

The first step is to improve the streets. If people don't come to visit us, we won't be able to develop the city.

Kosaka-san opened his mouth as he looked at the map of Brunhild.
Takasaka-san was younger than Baba's grandfather, but he must still be over sixty. He had a full head of gray hair and looked calm at first glance, but his eyes were sharp and keen, having made the Takeda family successful.
After receiving the letter, Baba's old man and the others went to pick up Takeda Shitenno, but here is where something slightly unexpected happened. Some of the Takeda soldiers who had lost their place in the war also wanted to come to our home. Probably they were the men who adore the Four Heavenly Kings. Well, there were less than fifty of them, but honestly, there was no way we could hire them right away. As expected, we don't have that much income.
We can get by using the mass production function of the workshop, but I don't think we should rely on it too much. I'm sure you'll be able to find a way to make it work.

"If it's a street street, it's just a matter of using earth magic, but........
''Only the road from Belfast to Regulus is needed as soon as possible, please. But other than that, Fuyu-sama...Your Majesty must not interfere too much. If you are the one who does everything, people will be dependent on you. It's fine to only help them when it's absolutely beyond their control.

Is that the way it is? Well, people are fallen creatures. That's not good for a new country, is it?

Next, we're going to clear the eastern part of the country for farming. We're going to pull a channel out of the river and create some rice paddies. I hope it will suit our soil. Now we just need to figure out what we can sell to the merchants and what we can sell to the state for income...''

To be more precise, though, the people will take a percentage of the money they get from merchants and others by creating something and collect it as a tax.
Honestly, I don't think we need taxes. I can earn my own money to feed myself and my family. According to Mr. Kosaka, that's not enough to keep the country running. I've decided to leave that to him. I told him to keep his taxes as low as possible.

'I wish we had a speciality unique to this country. We don't have any of those things, as we are originally from Belfast and Regulus land. Now we need to sell some technology, or something else...''
I can teach you how to build a bicycle for now. I think I can make a living at it for a while. Sooner or later, other countries will start to copy it.

Bicycles themselves are rare and convenient, but if you're going to carry a lot of stuff, a horse-drawn carriage is better, and if you're going to be fast, a horse is faster. But there's a demand for them, so I'm sure if you learn the right skills you can make a business out of them. But I think it would be quite difficult to make the same level of products that I make.

Let's just start with what we can do. Mr. Takasaka-san will be in charge of farming, so go ahead and do what you want. If it doesn't work, we'll figure it out then.

After leaving Kosaka-san, I went to the training ground and found our three knights still being treated well by Baba's old man and the others.
Since we don't have a knightly order yet, Baba's old man and Yamak Prefecture's old man have been acting like combat instructors.

'Oh, kid. Are you done talking to Kosaka?
'Can you stop being a little boy for goodness sake? Baba's old man is now a vassal, for one thing.
Don't be such a hard-ass. I'll draw a line between public and private. I'll call you "Your Majesty" in a proper context.

He laughs and taps me on the shoulder. This. I don't think anything I say is going to do any good.

'Unlike me, Baba-dono is useless to say, General.
You've just changed from being a caller to a general, Mountain Prefecture.
That's good, chief. What's the big deal?

Tono, Waka, and the others. Oh, man. I can't stand those two. Oh, forget it.

By the way, it's almost noon, so I'd like to go and get some food for you. It's a good idea to have Rain and the other three guys come along with you to train as well.
Hunting? It's nice, but what the hell is wrong with these guys?

There were three people stretched out on the ground at the end of the mountain prefecture's old man pointing at them. Only Nicola is standing on trembling legs, as if she is a boy's willpower. His fox ears are dented, though.

'Light, come, healthy breath, refresh.'

As I chanted the spell, soft grains of light fell on the three of them. After a while, all three of them mulled over and began to move their bodies, jumping up and down and swinging their swords around.

''I'm tired...''
'Wow, His Majesty's magic! It's amazing!
d*mn, you're awful. I'm sorry, Your Majesty.

It's fatigue recovery magic "Refresh". It won't heal your injuries, but it will recover your physical strength and physical fatigue. You can use this to create physical strength without getting tired. But it doesn't change the fact that you're overworking yourself, so I don't think it's best to use it too much.

''As usual, our general is a hell of a guy...''

The old man in the mountain prefecture blurted out like that. Well, let's take it as a compliment.

Well, about lunch, what do you want to eat? Just in case you're wondering, there's a boar, a bird, and, oh, and a crab....
" " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " "

All of you agree? I guess it's okay. So it's the bloody club then. For all the guys in the castle, we'll need to hunt two of them. One of them is big enough for a dump truck.

"Oh, the bloody club you'll be hunting is a red-ranked guild, so be careful.
""What?"

All three of us are eye-rolling. Oh well. A red-ranked person is at the level of a first-class adventurer.

''Don't worry, old man Yamagata and old man Baba will help us.
Us too?

That's right. Let's have a show of merit.

In the end, out of all the Bloody Crabs in the wilderness, I took down one of them with Gravity, and it didn't take me more than a minute, I think. The remaining one was left to the five of us to take the high ground... but it wasn't to be. I was able to watch the five of them fight while occasionally following up with recovery magic and light attack magic, though. Everyone fought for half an hour straight, and finally the Bloody Club went silent. They are all warrior types, and it seems they're still having a hard time without a wizard. That carapace is very hard. I'm not sure if it's too much of a match.

Good night!
Now I know... what a monster you are...

The old man of the mountain prefecture turns his gloomy eyes to me. Rude. The two former members of the Takeda clan have managed to stand, but they are still breathing heavily. Rain-san and the other three knights are completely groggy.
I'll give them a 'refresh' just like before.
What the hell, they're going to defeat a red-ranked demon, so these two are still the real deal. The other three were doing their best to support the others.
Storing the Bloody Club in the "storage", I return to the castle. I headed straight for the barracks and offered everyone some crabs. Well, I wonder if we have enough seasonings. It looks like we have salt and miso, so I think we'll be fine. We'll have to get the peddlers to come over as soon as possible to help with those things.
I'll leave the dismantling of the crabs and such to Baba's old men, and I'll make the road from Belfast to Regulus.
Originally, this was a dangerous area, so the road was largely detoured to the south. We will make a new road across the country to cut through it. And it shouldn't be a bad thing for those traveling between Belfast and Regulus because it would save time. We'll keep the original roads intact, so those who don't want to stay in our country can go that way.

I'll have to set up a checkpoint at the border. We don't want any weirdos coming to our country.

We'll have to tweak the roads in Belfast and Regulus a bit as well, but we've got permission from both countries to do that, so it's fine. Well, we just need to connect it to the one we have now.
At the gate we'll first take the Regulus side of the road.

From here, we can connect to the Belfast side in one fell swoop. It's better to go straight through rather than meandering around.

First, earth magic. I leveled the ground straight to the Belfast side. That's enough to make it passable as a road, but let's make it cobblestone to make it easy for carriages and the like to drive on. A smooth surface with few steps.
Now we need to build a simple guard house on the Belfast Regulus side of the road. We'll have a proper one rebuilt at a later date. Then we'll mark the route. "From here to the Duchy of Brunhild".
However, this is the only way to get around. I can see the castle from the middle of the road, but will they really say "Let's go there"?
Well, we don't have any business in the castle, maybe we can get Tsubaki-san's family to set up a shop on the street. Maybe something related to food and drink where we can take a break. It would be even better if it could be a base from which to obtain information from travelers.
Be that as it may, we also need a road to the castle. In the same way, we made a stone-paved path to the gate of the castle.
When we came to the front of the castle, we could smell a nice smell. Is it crab stew? I was hungry.

In the afternoon, I had to teach him how to make a bicycle. But it's not me, it's Rosetta who will be teaching her, because she knows better than me. She knows more about it than I do. If you're going to build a bicycle from scratch without using magic, it's better to leave it to her. It's not just the manager of a "workshop" for a dandy. She's also a top-notch technician in general.
Rosetta takes care of the production side of things and I get to teach her how to ride the bike. If you can't ride it, you can't sell it. The kids thought it was just for fun (understandable) and wanted a ride, so I built a couple of kids' bikes for them.
To my surprise, both adults and children were able to ride the bikes in no time. He has a tremendous sense of balance. To the amazement of the Takeda Shinobi, they were able to do just that.
The rest of the soldiers were gathered and took turns at the simple checkpoint. Well, there were about fifty of us, so we had four men on each side of the two countries, eight at a time. Eight men at a time, and they will work in eight-hour shifts, once every two days. Those who don't work must not eat. Yes.
Those who go to the border posts will be given a baton with a paralyzing power. It's a bit of a mess, like working at night. I've programmed it so that only they can use it, so it won't be a problem if they get it.
The only other thing I need to do is to summon a messenger with my summoning magic and ask him to take me with him in case something goes wrong. You'll be able to get in touch with me if you remember the messenger. The Belfast side summoned a dog and the Regulus side summoned a cat.
That's it. Are we starting to make ourselves presentable as a nation?
