　艶っぽく尻尾を動かした女性は、泡をたらいの湯で洗い落とすとハンスへ向き直った.
　小さめの顔にくびれた腰つき.
　身にまとうのは、薄く丈の短い衣一枚のみだ.
　そのせいで褐色の肌があちこち大きく露出しており、まとわりつく白い湯気との対比がなんとも魅力的である.

　もうもうと立ち込める熱気を、衝立で仕切ったそう広くない空間.
　ここが、彼女ら湯女たちの仕事場であった.
　花街の一角.
　湯屋と呼ばれるこの浴場は、男性に大人気の場所だ.

　見目麗しい女性たちが丁寧に髪や体を洗ってくれるだけなく、銀貨や金貨を弾むともっと大人なサービスも受けられるという形を変えた娼館の一種である.
　そして彼女たち魔人種の女性の多くは、天性の美貌と異性を魅了する特性を持ち合わせるため、こういった業種では引く手あまたであった.
　もっとも彼女たちも望んでこのような仕事に就いたわけではなく、大半は本国で暮らせない何らかの事情持ちだ.

　ちゃんとした奴隷制がある帝国とは違い、王国では建前上、奴隷は居ないこととなっている.
　が、実質奴隷のような扱いを受ける子も少なくなく、法での加護がない分、酷い有り様になっているケースも多い.

　その辺りの事情を知るノエミは、前々からそれとなく手助けをしており、今回はとうとう引き抜きに動いたという話である.
　ただしこういった場所では、ならず者どもが幅を利かせているのがお約束だ.

　そこで見つからずに接近する方法としてハンスが選んだのは、王都の地下に張り巡らされた下水路であった.
　ニーノも王都を抜け出す際に使っており、一応の保証はある.
　またスライムや大ネズミなど魔物の巣窟と化している上、汚く臭いので腕に覚えがある者でもよほどのことがない限り立ち入ることもない.
　が、<旋風>で高速移動が出来て、スライム程度なら軽くあしらえるハンスにとって、またとない移動経路だった.
　ニーノのくれた地図は一部しか載っていなかったため、二時間以上さまよう羽目となったが、無事に花街の路地まで誰にも見つからずに来ることができたというわけだ.

　ノエミが手紙を渡すよう指定した相手は、この辺りの湯屋で働く魔人種の湯女たちのまとめ役と言うべき女性だった.
　手土産にするようにと言われた蜜蝋石鹸のおかげか、ここまではすんなりと進んでいる.
　あとは色よい返事をもらうだけであるが…….

　封を切った手紙へちらりと視線を落とした女性は、しばし考え込む顔になった.
　それからハンスの目を覗き込みながら、悪戯っぽく笑みを浮かべて尋ねてくる.

「ねえ、ここに書いてることって本当なの？」
「どれのことですか？」
「食事が美味しいとか、給料がすごくいいとか」
「ええ、それは保証いたしますよ」
「でもそこって、すごく田舎じゃない？」
