18-Episode 16: Lucy's Secret

Demon?

Lucy began to speak with a dark look on her face.

'Yeah, well...'
"Lucy is an elf, right?
My mother is an elf. But not my father. My mother married a demon somewhere, and I'm the child she had.
A hybrid of elves and demons?
 That should be strong, right?

"According to my mother, my father was a demon race whose entire body was covered in flames. I've heard that my father was a demon who was surrounded by flames, and I have a strong attribute of fire in my magic.
Your whole body on fire, how does that make you a kid?
That's not the point!
 I'm pissed.
 I think it's a normal question.

''I can use powerful magic thanks to my flame magic and my flame resistance is strong, but I can't use weak flame magic. I'm not good at controlling it either, and I easily go out of control. Also, my body temperature is abnormally high and I have a tendency to heat up because of it.
Oh, so that's why you always wear so little?
 The mystery was solved.

'So I think the reason why Makoto got burned all over in this magical entrainment was because the other person was me. Any other person wouldn't have done this....
 Lucy looks quite depressed.

'If that's the kind of situation you're in, I don't blame you. Next time we'll take a different tack.
Lucy looked up with a puzzled look in her eyes.

'Makoto, will you continue to party with me?'
What makes you think I won't continue?
'Cause! And it didn't help me this time either. I would lure the demons away. And to top it all off, they're really going to hurt you!
I sue with tears in my eyes.

It helped, though I was burned all over.
You were burned badly!
Don't worry about it so much. Everyone makes mistakes.
'But! My recent training hasn't improved much at all. What should I do...
 Hmmm, you're feeling down.
 How can I comfort you?

"Hey, you don't really think I'm a bother, do you? You're not forced to keep partying because Lucas and Marie told you to...?
 It's a huge negative.
 I don't think it's too much trouble.
I'm having fun trying to figure out how to use Lucy's strong magic, it's like solving a puzzle.
But I feel like it's like solving a video game and if I tell you it's fun, you're going to get mad at me.
Hmmm, I'm in a bit of a bind.

"Lucy.
The hand that had been caught is clasped back from us.

'I need Lucy. We'll keep working together.
I meet Lucy's eyes and mumble with a serious expression.
That's me watching it from the side with my RPG player skills.
 Wow, this is pretty embarrassing.

''Eh, eh! Yeah, right. Okay, I'll do my best!
 Lucy is red-faced and fuming.
 I think I overreacted a bit.
It's going to be okay, right?

(Uh-oh.)
I thought I heard the goddess sigh.
 Oh, that wasn't good?

 ◇

For a while after that, I focused on treating my burns.
But I was just lounging around in the guild's common room.

 I'm bored.
Lucy is working hard on improving her proficiency in fire magic.
In between, I asked Lucy to tell me about her newly acquired skill 'Spirit Master'.

'Spirits are invisible,'
How can you control it if you can't see it?
It's just like regular magic. It's a spell. But you have to utter it in spirit language.
 Another language.
 It's not easy to learn.

I'll have to start with the easiest one. I'll have to go to a secondhand bookstore later.
'You won't find any instructional books on spirit magic in the city of McAllen.
'What? Why?
Because no one is a human spirit user.
 Oh, yes, I did.
I learned that in the temple.
Don't we have any human messengers?

'Well, then, how do I learn to do it?'
Hmm, we're in trouble.
"Huh, I can't wait to go goblin hunting.

No! You must rest for another week!
Emily, who was passing by, paid attention.
'Hey, Jean,'
Oh, yes.
I raise one hand to greet Jean.
Apparently, he's training to hunt a rampaging bison by himself.
That sounds like a lot of fun.

It's torture to be in the guild all the time and not be able to go on adventures.
Fluffy, seven water balls (water balls) float around like a cue ball.
This is the kind of practice I've been doing for a while now.

I've been doing advanced things while talking like that. ........Hey, Makoto?
Lucy has a serious look on her face.

'What?'
You know, Makoto's been sleeping in the guild's common room the whole time, right?
'Yeah, it's a waste of money for lodging, or rather, no money.'
It's a pittance, such as the money he got from goblin hunting.
And since I can't go earn it now, it's diminishing rapidly.
I should be fine for another week or so........
Life in the other world isn't easy.

I'm sure you'll be able to find out more about this. So they send me quite a bit of money, and I've signed up for a long-term stay at an inn.
Yeah, I've heard that one before.
 I envy you, young lady.

So, you see. Uh, well..........
Lucy?
I think you should be in a proper room, don't you? If you would like to come with me to my room...
Lucy was just about to say something when someone interrupted her.

'Makoto-kun! Are you feeling better?
It was Marie who hugged me from behind.
 She's unusually not drunk.
 It's still daylight.

"Marie, you're being violent with an injured man.
Hey! Marie! I'm talking to you about something important!
 Lucy makes a snappy noise.

'Hmmm... I don't know if I should be so evil.'
With a grin, Marie hands me some books.

'What? What's up with this 'First Spiritual Language'?
I thought the city of McAllen didn't have one?
I heard that Makoto-kun has a new skill. I got it from the Spring Rogue Guild.
It was hard work, said Marie.

'The Adventurers Guild of the Woodlands........ As I recall, there are a lot of elves and dwarves there, but...'' Lucy said.
''Thank you, Marie-san!
Yeah, that's fine. Good luck, Makoto-kun.
He patted me on the head.
Lucy is puffed up next to me.
Well, we were in the middle of a conversation.

"Lucy, you were about to say something to me earlier, weren't you?
....
 Lucy won't look at me.

'Miss Lucy?'
Nothing.
Huh? I wonder what's going on.

'Well, Marie. How much do I owe you for this book?
'You don't have to pay for it. However, it belongs to the guild and you have to return it. I just lend it to you.
I understand. Thank you.
 Good.
I didn't have much on hand, so that's good.

See you," Marie said as she went back to work.

''No, that's very helpful. Now I can practice my spirit magic.
....
I also wonder what to do about Lucy's grumpiness next to me for some reason.

'Hey, Lucy?'
Hey, Makoto?
Yes, sir.
f*ck you!
 I ran.

That day, it was hard to appease Lucy for dinner (or rather, drink).
