78-Episode 77: Extreme

Marilyn likes it sweet.

I'm medium spicy.

Mister Tallow, I think you could use a spicy curry.

'Really? About medium-hot is the best balance.

I don't like it too spicy, so I'd like it sweet, please.

I think I'll stick with the dry ones. After all that sweat we put on in the heat, I think we're going to need some dry ones. Hey, Taro.

I'll make three pots.

Not to commemorate the expansion of the sea, but the menu for dinner today was seafood curry.
We bought the ingredients from 'online shopping' because the number of sea creatures hadn't fully increased yet, but I didn't know there would be such a disagreement over the taste of the curry...

 Marilyn and Frau were sweet.
Mew and Urilynn got a medium-hot one.
Lalabell and Aisha thought it would be dry.
Since each of them had different preferences for spiciness, we prepared three pots and pans to make curry.
I think I prefer the hot one.

''.........Grand Chief Katoo, this very fragrant and delicious smell.......is the color of a pussy.......''

That's a no-no!

Mr. Bijoule, who is in charge of the settlement around the World Tree, came to visit the castle, but as soon as he saw the pot of curry, he said something he should not say to those who were about to eat the curry.
I stopped it in a hurry.

'But this smells so good and looks so good,'

Would you like one?

I'd like to join you. It's a good thing I came for this occasion.

'What? What did you say?

Come on, let's eat this food! So what does this dish say?

Curry.

The use of spices is a lavish dish. Ah, but... I'll have a sweet one.

Mr. Bijoule liked the curry and would take a second helping, but perhaps because he was a fruit-loving desert elf, he didn't like it too spicy, so he ate the sweet version, as did Marilyn and Frau, who were a bit more childlike.
Later on, curry roux also sold well to the desert elves, but it was the sweet version that sold the most.

''Excuse me to dessert. This fruit sorbet is cold and delicious.''

After dinner we ate fruit sorbet and listened to Mr. Bijur's report.

'The seedlings of the World Tree that were thought to be kept by the entire tribe, but after all, many of them have been lost over the years. We checked and found that only five trees remained. I'm going to select a candidate site and plant these.

'So the folklore was right about the World Tree leaving a lot of seedlings.

'Yes. But the desert elves were chased out of the oasis by the humans and wandered around until they fled to a mobile city. I'm sure they lost a lot, but there is no denying that they may have been robbed.

It didn't just wither away; it had to be abandoned.
So it's possible that the humans took it away.

''However, it's difficult for even us desert elves, let alone the current humans, to grow a world tree. It will remain a sapling, I suppose.''

As long as the world tree grows, it will enrich the land where it is planted and attract a lot of underground water.
However, it is very difficult to grow them.
It requires an enormous amount of fertilizer and water.
Once they are fully grown, they don't need much water and fertilizer, and they don't need to be cared for and they don't die even if you leave them alone.

But it will take a lot of effort to grow them.
If we could get it to grow completely, the benefits would be even greater than the amount of fertilizer and water we used, but with that much fertilizer and water, I think ordinary countries and oases would spend it on agriculture.
Even the desert elves couldn't get the world tree to grow.
It would be more difficult for humans.

''I'll look for the World Tree saplings when I have time, but for now, where do we plant those five World Trees?

North, east and west of the Polar South Sea. We want to be in a place that's not too far from the sea.

Plant a world tree to surround the sprawling Far South Sea and increase the green space of the 'Union of Southwest Tribes' to develop it.
I think this is the best way to go.

''Since there is less land to the south due to the spread of the sea, how about planting a world tree at the pole that has been turned into an island?

Polaris...

As on Earth, the poles of the planet are usually cold, so it's not really a good place to plant a world tree.
But is it OK to plant the world tree at the pole of this world because it is hot?
It's because you don't want to say no after you've planted it.

'Oh, by the way, is the pole pole a desert?

"In a desert of rock and gravel, the lore of our desert elves says only that there is 'something' at the poles.

"'There's something there' is a bit of an ambiguous expression...

I think so, but that's all they've told me, sir.

Actually, I think we may end up with the poles at the poles.

Do you want me to send out a survey team?

No, I'll ask Mr. Bizzur to plant and nurture the remaining five world trees.

If we leave the necessary fertilizer and water beforehand, Mr. Bijur will do the rest of the work for us.
It would be better for us to search for the polar point.
Aside from me, Lalabelle and the others will be safe from the strong sand beasts.

''We can leave Gori-san Town to Gori Macho, and since Marilyn and Urilyn have to take care of the sea, we'll do the exploration ourselves.

I understand. But I'm afraid you're going to have to wait a little longer.

Why?

"As a matter of fact, among the tribes that are about to join the Confederation of Southwest Tribes, there are those who deal in watercraft. Since the Pole is currently surrounded by the sea.

I can't use a sand drift ship, so I'm to be sent to the desert elves who can handle a watercraft?

There is one. "There are desert elves who can handle watercraft.

'There are, but the Central Sea is divided and controlled by a human nation, and they say it's very difficult to live as a seafaring people there, so they've said they'll join us here. We can use sand drifters on the water, but sand drifters are flat-bottomed, so it's dangerous to plow through the expansive Far South Sea.

The tribe is using a ship made of dragon bone?

You know exactly what I mean.

I'm not a sailor, so that's about all I know.
Navigational skills will be different in the desert than at sea, and it will take some time for Mr. Bijur and his crew to get used to the watercraft.
It would be faster and safer to wait for them.

'All right, sir. I'll have them take you home.

Then I'll tell my brother that.

We were to be sent by boat by desert elves who could operate a watercraft to explore the pole where 'something is'.
Should we buy a lot of water and fertilizer for the World Tree?
