5-5 "Adventurers are not bad"

"Please register as an adventurer.

Wraith, who came back to Amelia's front again, said that at the opening. Next to her, Raffy was standing next to her, with a subtle expression on her face.

''Are you really going to register........''
'Yeah. Partly because I was simply intrigued, and if you can get paid for it, it's worth it to sign up.
'Well, it's true, but...'

What Raffy is worried about is whether or not Wraith will do something out of the ordinary with his request.

-- if he tries to give her an elixir with the request to create a potion, I must do my best to stop him.

As Raffy makes a vow in her mind, the adventurer registration is completed.

''Wraith-san will start at F-class, and up to D-class you can increase your rank with requests other than those for defeat.

From D level, you can't raise your rank without completing requests to defeat monsters. In other words, a wraith that can't fight demons can only raise its rank up to D.

''Now that you've registered, do you want to take a request?
'Hmm, yeah. I had one request that bothered me earlier.

Wraith says, and brings one request from the board.

''Is this a request for ... alchemy help?''
Yeah.

It's a perfect request for Wraith, the alchemist. It would be just as good as the first request. However, when Amelia looked at the request form, she made a bitter face.

''It might be best not to make this request.
Why?
''My client, Master Alchemist, is well known for his eccentricities and no one has ever accomplished the request, so I can't really recommend him.
"Ho ho!

Wraith crossed her arms and nodded yes.

Indeed, she could understand Amelia's reluctance. There's no need to go all the way to a place where you know you'll have a hard time.

 So, that's why.

All right, I'll take the case.
Um, did you hear me?
Yes, I heard you.
Then why do you think...

 Wraith laughed and said, smiling.

'Because it sounds interesting.'

Looking at Wraith's condition, Raffy's shoulders slumped as if she had given up. Originally, she didn't expect Wraith to think properly.

In the first place, the client's alchemist wouldn't even imagine that an alchemist greater than himself would come with a request for help. When you think about it, I might be able to manage it unexpectedly.

........Unless the Wraiths cause some kind of disturbance, that is.

"Wraith, I'm not saying you shouldn't take this request. But don't make the mistake of showing or making an elixir.
'Oh, yeah...'

Wraith was forced to nod halfway through Raffy's powerful reminder in a whisper. Raffy wanted to accompany the Wraith so that he wouldn't do anything, but since he didn't have any skills regarding alchemy, he couldn't stand in the way.

So this is why I'm giving him advice like this.

When Amelia sensed the end of Lace and Raffy's conversation, she stamped the request form with a divine face. It indicates the acceptance of the request.

''I understand, I won't stop you if you say you will accept it yourself, Wraith-san. This is the location of your client's shop, I hear.''

Lace takes the map and request form offered to her.

'Thank you,'
Well, good luck with the task at hand.

Wraith's first request began as she was seen off by Amelia, who bowed her head politely, and Raffy, who had an anxious expression on her face.

 *****

This is the client's shop...

The place I arrived at, relying on the map Amelia handed me. The shop there was neither big nor small, it was just an ordinary shop.

I'd like to keep it a secret from Raffy that I got lost a few times before coming here.

Apparently, she has a worrying side to her.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to succeed in this request and win Raffy's trust.

''Good!

I'm fired up enough. I walked into the store, full of enthusiasm. The store smelled like a familiar chemical smell, and colorful potions were displayed on the shelves.

It was a familiar sight to Wraith, an alchemist. Without any particular surprise, he proceeded to the counter.

''Excuse me, I'm here on a request...''

Wraith spoke to the girl at the counter. She is probably younger than the Wraith in age.

She's a petite girl with translucent blue hair stretched messily to about shoulder length and clad in a white coat. She has dark circles under her eyes, and her pretty face is now twisted into a tired look.

I don't believe it's the client, but there's no one else. The real client is probably in the back of the shop making potions or something.

 --I thought.

Thanks for that. I'll get right on it.
What...?

Wraith is confused and involuntarily still.

'What? I'm your client, Daisy.
You did?
Yes, I do. What is it?

Daisy says uncomfortably in an exasperated tone. But by all appearances, she was a child of about twelve years old. I couldn't believe I was running a store, though I wasn't very good at it.

''I'll tell you ahead of time, I'm still about your age in this one,''

 --What.........

Wraith was inwardly shocked, but she tried to never show it on her face. It was obvious that if she made a rag here, the girl in front of her would get angry again.

''That's right. I'm Wraith, an adventurer who came here to make a request.''
Okay. Thanks. Now shut up and follow me.

Daisy sniffs and walks slowly to the back of the store. As she was told, Wraith follows behind her.

'So, how long has Wraith been doing alchemy?
Well, seven or eight years.

Wraith began to learn alchemy when he was ten years old. In the beginning, he learned it in his own way, but from the age of twelve, he learned many things from his master.

'It's quite a long time, isn't it? Then I guess I can expect a bit more.''
Thank you for that...
Look, here.

Daisy led us to a room where medicinal herbs were stored. Many of the herbs are dipped in special chemicals to prevent their quality from deteriorating.

What I need you to do is to 'extract' and 'purify' these herbs.

'Extraction' is the alchemy of creating a liquid containing medicinal properties, and 'purification' is the alchemy of removing impurities from that liquid.

Both are essential techniques for alchemists, and the more skilled alchemists have increased speed and accuracy. Of course, Wraiths can also master it.

''Is that all you need?''
Yeah, that's it. As many as possible, please.
Okay.

Wraith was inwardly relieved that it was an easier request than he thought it would be.

Make sure you don't screw it up.

The words, announced in the lightest, prettiest voice ever, somehow had the greatest power without saying a word.

With Wraith trembling with fear, Daisy left the scene.

 --You can't fail.

Once again, Wraith, with his mind set on his usual (...) work as usual (...).

Yes, using the alchemy that is normal for him.
