65-65 "Making armor"

The day after Lace purchased the gifts. Both Raffy and Sylvia were visiting Lace's house.

''Yes, here, thank you for yesterday.''

'Here,' they both accept the bear doll that Lace offers them.

''Thank you!''
Oh, thank you.

Both of them are smiling and happy, but Raffy in particular looks sincerely happy as she can't hide her excitement. When Lace is thinking that one doll is that much, Sylvia quietly pulls her face closer to him.

''Sis, you like pretty things and such, but you're too shy to buy them yourself. So thank you, Lace-san.''

Wraith is convinced by one person that that's how it is, and at the same time, he chuckles. Nevertheless, Wraith also charged into the store with a certain determination, although it was a different emotion than shame.

I felt like I could understand Raffy's feelings a little bit too.

Anyway, she nodded in satisfaction that she was happy to have the gift. A hand was placed on Wraith's shoulder like a ghostly demon in a wavering manner.

The one standing beside the Wraith with an aura of darkness overflowing is Lurimes.

''So, what is this, Lei-kun?''

Lurimes brought out a doll with a monster-like appearance while emitting a resentful voice. You might be tempted to ask what in the world the hybrid is, but the doll was a gift to Rulimes by the Wraiths - or rather forced upon her.

I'm not going to try to hide my dissatisfaction, but Rulimes didn't seem to like it.

''No, I didn't buy it because I wanted it either, you know...''
So don't give it to me...
So we'll just put it up.

The doll is set up in a corner of the room. If you see it late at night, it's sure to look eerie.

''Okay, so let's go with the second present.
What? Are there more of them?
Well, it's not like we only have one doll. After thinking about what would be best, we both are adventurers, so how about a weapon? Well, we're going to be making one now.

A staff for Sylvia the mage, or a sword for Raffy the swordsman. I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to make each of them.

'Are you sure, I'd love to!
'A weapon made by the Wraith, I'm certainly curious.

Since I came to King's Landing, I've only been working on potions and magic tools, and I haven't made any weapons at all. It's been a long time since I've worked on them, but I'm optimistic that I'll be able to handle it.

''Then let's make them.''

 *****

The making of weapons in alchemy basically follows a similar process to blacksmithing. However, it's not all the same, and it takes less effort than blacksmithing.

It goes without saying that the degree of difficulty is higher than that of blacksmithing.

Wraith selects a hammer and other tools in the room for making armor and prepares them. As the furnace is being lit, Wraith, Raffy and Sylvia are dressed in light clothing, taking off their robes and other items.

Incidentally, Lurimes went out for the reason that he was not interested. Probably headed to the tavern.

I'll start with the sword. Do you have any requests from Raffy?
Hmmm, I'm just saying, as long as it's sharp and strong, nothing else.
''Well, Raffy's own basic abilities are ridiculously high, and a weapon that can withstand that is fine.

As long as it's not something that breaks or self-destructs as soon as it's swung, Raffy doesn't have any problems with it. Basically, he's a person who can get by with his swordsmanship and physical abilities.

Then it is up to the materials used and the rest is up to the Wraith's skill.

'Let me see your current sword for reference.
Yeah.

Wraith held out his arms and took the sword from Raffy, surprised at its weight.

'Oh, it's heavy.'
I don't feel like I'm swinging too lightly.
Okay.

I examine the weight, the thickness, length and shape of the blade and handle, and picture the finished product in my mind.

'The material is ... well ... orichalcone, right? It should be heavy enough.
Wait a minute, are you sure you want to use that precious thing...?
Well, I don't spend that much.

He uses a lot of minerals related to making magical equipment, but seldom uses minerals related to armor. Therefore, although there is not a surplus, there is still plenty of room.

''Good.''

I put the charcoal and orichalcone in a lit furnace and waited for a while until it was hot. At times the temperature is raised and the extracted orichalcone is taken out.

Heating it up again, Wraith brings out the mallet.
This is where it differs from blacksmithing a bit.

Unlike normal forging, Wraith doesn't have to swing the mallet down again and again.

''Material strengthening.''

As the mallet was enveloped in a thin blue-white light, it swung down to Orihalcon. A high-pitched sound resounded and a large amount of sparks were scattered into the air.

The light shifts from the hammer struck to the orichalcon and is absorbed. The Wraith repeated it two or three times, then unlocked the alchemy once.

From this point on, the process of shaping it into the shape of a sword.

''Transformation.''

The Wraith pounded with the mallet, changing the shape of the orichalcon through alchemy as well. The orichalcone was being shaped into a sword blade as you look at it, and soon the Wraith stopped holding the mallet.

I took the orichalcone in the form of a sword and put it into the water. I'm going to wait for it to cool down to room temperature.

For now, let's make the staff while we wait.
I don't know, I feel like it's working pretty fast...
'Well, I'm assisting her with alchemy. Now, do you have any requests from Sylvia?
'Yes - as long as it's heavy enough that it doesn't interfere with your mobility.

A mage's staff, besides assisting in the activation of magic, also plays a role in increasing power. Hence, wands are often made of ore that is easy for magic power to pass through, and they are inevitably heavy.

Wraith nodded to Sylvia's order. The material to be used was decided from the beginning.

''Mithril........''
It's the best magic conductor in the world.

Wraith brings out the precious material without a care in the world. It is an act that can be done because of the stock.

''Now, well, in the case of wands, we have to be careful about the outlet of magic power, but...''

There is no need to wield a hammer like a sword to make a wand.

What is most important is where the magic power through the staff goes out. In other words, it's the place where the magic power is increased. Generally, that's where you attach the magic stone.

However, this time Wraith doesn't intend to use a magic stone.

''Transformation.''

Using alchemy on the mithril, it changes its shape to a staff in about a minute. It's not that long in length, just enough to fit around your waist.

With that, Wraith took out a bottle of red powder from his bag. The red powder is actually red crystal powder, which was also used to create the 'Magic Enhancement' ring.

''What's that?''
''The material for making the 'magic enhancement' ring. This one.....

Wraith played with the shape of the tip of the wand, making it look like an hourglass. He poured the red crystal powder and holy water into it and then put the lid on.

'Sylvia, hold it for a moment and see how much it weighs.
Yes, sir.

Sylvia takes the wand from Wraith and shakes it a bit, moving it up and down to feel it.

'It's okay.'
All right, well, I'll just tape it up so it doesn't slip.

Wrap the tape around the handle and the cane is complete.
It didn't even take enough time. It takes far less effort than the sword, but it consumes that much material.

'Here you go,'
Oh, thank you.

Sylvia receives a pure white wand from Wraith with a curious expression. I guess it's not good to feel that the wand was made.

'What? You're sure?

Sylvia's face lit up with a puff and her cheeks rose to the top.

'Raffy, can we have the sword tomorrow?'
Yeah, I'll be fine.
All right. Let's go.
